The player/caddie relationship is very important to many, many professionals. The days of players telling caddies to shut up and just hand me the club I asked for are long gone for the most part. Having said that, there is quite a bit of turnover in the business. These people spend more time together than people realize. It is more than just looping a bag for a 4 1/2 - 5 hours a round. It is a very stressful career, and there is a lot of ups and downs in a golf career. Caddies are kind of like a professional coach in other sports... there are those that have been fired, and those that will be fired.
Stevie basically has not had a job for a couple of years, does not get paid while Tiger is not playing, and sounded like he was out of the loop on when Tiger was in/out of the U.S. Open and other tournaments this year.
