If you were the Cincinnati Reds GM, would you do this deal.

  • se-alum

Yes, for a bushel of peaches.

Gomes for PTBNL? Consider it done.
  • Ty Webb
They may get a bag of peaches and a trip to Cobb County to visit the Big Boss Man.

I'm fine giving up Wood and/or Volquez, and would be willing to give up Alonso depending on what we get back

This @ScrtSquirrel007 guy on twitter seems pretty adamant that the Reds are getting Jiminez.
    #Reds & #Rockies agree in principle - #Ubaldo 2 b in Cincy w/ #Fowler - #Mesoraco #Frazier #Volquez & PTBNL to Colorado
    #Ubaldo #Fowler 4 #Mesoraco #Frazier #Volquez deal slow due 2 Fowler "issue" - terms chngng - 24-48 hrs away - Ubaldo nxt start will b n red
Followed up with this (which is confusing as hell):
    #Rockies want #Mesoraco #Volquez or #Frazier #Alonso #Volquez & #Valaika

No clue. He could be just making shit up or he could work for either team.

I hope this deal gets done and I would trade Gomes for a dozen baseballs.

You mean Jiminez? I'd like to get him, but not if it means giving up Mesoraco. I know we've got Grandal, as well, but I think Mesoraco is a can't miss prospect. I also think the Rockies already have a big time catching prospect.

I always love listening to people talk about trades and such. It always reminds me of the episode when Constanza walks into Steinbrunner's office and tells him that he has an idea on how to get Griffey (and I think bonds) and it wouldnt really cost them that much!

I would have no problem giving up Frazier, Volquez, Alonso, and Valaika for Jimenez.

Yep. Mes is the deal breaker. The Dexter Fowler thing still doesn't make sense. He adds no value and has no place to play. Stubbs is better both offensively and defensively.

Makes perfect sense, the Reds LOVE below average outfielders!

You don't trade Mesoraco for anyone. He's a franchise catcher who is ready. If he was 19 or 20 and in A-ball, sure, you take the risk that he doesn't develop, but he's to the point where he could start and hit in the low-middle of your batting order tomorrow and handle your pitching staff. You don't trade that...

I'll trade a top catcher for an ace, sorry..
  • Ironman92
I don't know that Stubbs is better than Fowler defensively.......but he has all the attributes Dusty loves.......and most of theones Jim Bowden loved as well......the 5 tool players with 1 1/2 tools.

If they insist on him, fine.

However, if they would take Grandal along with3 other top prospects, I'd rather do that deal. Grandal, Boxberger, Alonso and one other prospect of their choice. Colorado would be crazy to pass that up and I don't see another team being able to top that.

Jiminez isn't a true "ace" in my opinion. Guys like Cliff Lee, Halladay, Verlander, Kershaw are. Jiminez is definitely a nice pitcher but would he even be the best pitcher on the Reds (Cueto)?

Pretty much what I've said since the Jimenez talks began. Number 2 pitcher isn't worth giving up your top prospect over.
  • Azubuike24
Price-wise I think he's a true ace. I just don't believe in trading Mesoraco for anyone. Finding a franchise catcher who provides what he does, especially with a right-hand bat, is actually much less common in today's game than an ace. As pitching continues to dominate the sport, hitting and game management from a catcher is much more important.

If the deal can be done without giving up Mesoraco, then I say do it. Otherwise, I would try to trade Gomes, Hernandez, and Lewis for whatever you can get; start Heisey in left every day, bring up Mesoraco to platoon with Hanigan, bring up Hermida to back up Heisey and Sappelt or Frazier to be the other outfielder. If there is any way to move Renteria or Cordero, do that too.
  • jordo212000
I'm not sure what they would get for Ramon Hernandez, but if they could get somebody who can play on the team right now, I do it. Mesoraco is ready.

The way Ramon is playing right now, I wouldn't be surprised if a contender would come calling.

Reds definitely have to do something about the catching situation. Hernandez is swinging a great bat this year, but Hanigan is the personal catcher for Arroyo, Willis, and Leake.

Ramon needs to get in sync with one of those if not two of them. If he can't then well, trade him if a good offer is out there.
