lol..yeah, but where he is playing is on the manager...they set up the defense. Unless for some reason, Valbuena didn't look in on where to play.

I agree. But I think they were being cautious with him. With Brantley, we have a guy on 1st and second and possibly get out of that. Very worst, 2 outs and bases loaded (if Thome reached via walk or something).

He still walked a guy with a 1 run lead in the bottom of the 9th. Also, that first one wouldn't have been caught by anyone.

Hard to be mad at CP. He's been the best player all season for this team. You need to score more than a run to win baseball games. With that said, another damn opportunity lost.

    Welcome to the club!

On a brighter note...it's July 19 and we are still tied for first.

lol, no. But it would be 1st and 2nd. Perez can then go to work on Thome. The second one should have been caught, even with where he was playing.

Yea I guess, I just find it hard to not place blame on the guy whose job it is to close the game. He wasn't pitching very well at all. I kinda wish Brantley could have just manned up an went in once Buck got hit (if that's possible to even do).

In this day and age, it's hard to find a "man up" guy. I heard Acta's excuse for him in the post game interview. Pitiful. But also pitiful that an infielder doesn't go for a ball when pressed into sevice as an outfielder. You are a pro making major dollars. End of BRF rant..........for now.

Quick turnaround as well. No TV tomorrow, but we GOTTA get game 4. Cant let two 4 game sets go by with splits after taking the first 2 both times...

What a wasted effort with Masterson tonight as well. I mean really, what the FUCK was that line-up we trotted out? You MUST play Hafner in games like this. Granted, our line-up sucks either way, but at least we have Pronk in there.

I only saw the first couple of innings, but I can't believe Acta, who usually brings in defensive subs late in the game with a lead (IE Jack for Lonnie at 3B) didn't bring in a replacement for Valbuena in the OF... As the old saying goes, the ball will find you...

Frustrating loss because Masterson pitched a hell of a game.

    Hoops23

I tried sending a private message but not sure if it went through. Doesn't show up in sent folder.

I'm going to use those Indians tickets after all.

Yep, I got it and I responded.

You can expect me at your door, sometime between 2 and 4 AM wielding a machete and an AK 47.

    Just a friendly heads up.

sucks to run out of outfielders and have two broken bat'ers find the second baseman playing left. get em tomorrow and its a 5-3 road trip
  • HitsRus
Yeah...another missed opportunity....a winnable game lost because we need another stick in the lineup. Time to trade a prospect or two and bring in a right handed masher.

Carlos Beltran had a monster night.. Pipe dream, I know.

Exactly. This one is on Acta, imo. Sending a AA lineup out there to hit? I know the Twins offense sucks but c'mon? It's as if he WANTS to keep the Tigers right in this thing.

this is on Acta, but Perez walking the leadoff hitter was inexcusable--period

He actually retired the leadoff hitter in the bottom of the 9th. After that he gave up 2 broken bat flairs to end the game.

It is unfortunate that Acta had no one else to put into the game in LF besides Valbuena, who had played some in the OF in AAA. I am sure Acta's thinking on not playing Pronk was that he just played 2 games yesterday and didn't want to risk having him overwork that chronically injured shoulder. This one just showed the need to go out and make a move if this team is to make the postseason this year. If they just ride it out with what they currently have I can't see them being able to hold off the Tigers.

    FUCK
  • Wooball
After seeing yesterday's line-up, I wonder if Acta will let Rachel Phelps set today's?

I think it's safe to say Masterson is a true number 1 and closing in on the "ace" status. He could and should have 4-5 more wins easily.

I am hesitant to go that far, but he definitely has dominant stuff. You could have said the same thing about Carmona during the 2007 season. Hopefully the difference between those 2's career is that Bat seems to have the mental part of the game under control, where Carmona constantly struggles.
  • royal_k
Yeah, they both have great stuff, but Masterson has a much better mental game. What's crazy about last night's performance is he through 104 fastballs out of 105 pitches. Never seen that before.
  • royal_k
Brantley and Buck not in the line up again....Valbuena starting in LF....FML

They were talking on Baseball Tonight about Halladay's troubles in the heat, and a discussion was brought up about a conversation in which Mark Buehrle said in the heat he just throws fastballs and hopes that batters hit them to his fielders. I'm guessing last night something similar was going on in Masterson's mind.
