Fan dies at Rangers game catching a foul ball

  • GoPens
Josh Hamilton threw a foul ball into the stands and the guy fell 20 feet while catching it. Wouldn't be surprised now if MLB bans players from throwing balls into the stands.

Terrible situation but I don't think they'll ban it all together. I think teams will start making sure players express a little more caution when tossing balls into the stands.

Terrible his son had to witness the entire thing. Also gotta feel for Hamilton.

It's kind of uncomfortable watching that video knowing what happens.
  • wes_mantooth
    that is awful.

Sucks to be those announcers knowing the guy is dead now
  • oberhaus
Just horrible and the son watched. That makes it that much worse.

Terrible, but as the announcer said "Just for a baseball"..

I admit, they have to be feeling pretty shitty about the commentary they were making, then again, maybe they don't...

Sometimes, common sense has to prevail Leaning over a railing to catch a ball thrown into the stands while you're about 20 feet or so above ground, isn't using good sense.

Surprised it doesnt happen more with foul balls that people lean way out over the 2nd deck to catch

I can say I almost don't feel bad for this guy. What the hell was he thinking? It's a freaking baseball! Darwinism on display here.

Tragic. Hard to even read. No desire to watch video.

Very tragic something like this happens....and his son was right there to see it.

Tragic the whole way around. Feel horrible for the son who witnessed the whole thing. Feel horrible to Hamilton, as I'm sure he will live with this for a while. We've all seen it a million times, the joy both father and son experience when the father catches a ball and gives it to the son.....I know when I was a kid that was what my dad wanted to do for me, it just never happened. This situation goes from what many fathers I'm sure would treasure, to the worst situation a family could experience. Prayers go out to the family.

Tough to listen to Mike and Mike. A's reliever Brad Ziegler is giving his account of what happened and is having a hard time talking about it.

I saw this as soon as I woke up.. Not a good way to start the morning. Very sad story.

I'm curious to know the actual cause of death. They say he was talking and moving when they took him away on the stretcher.
  • karen lotz
Ziegler said it was obvious he had some kind of head injury, he saw a good deal of blood. Stone was carried out on the stretcher right in front of him and a few other members of the A's bullpen.

Very well said right here Bogey ... I am sure this guy was just excited to get a ball for his son, and then this horrible accident happened. Weird, I hear sad stories every day, but this one is just sitting in the pit of my stomach. So tragic.

    Terrible

According to the article he went into "full arrest" en route to the hospital. Cardiac? Shock?

Its crazy that he was conscious and talking and then dead in no time.
  • oberhaus
Its the son that makes this so hard to stomach. If it was a drunk guy out with friends, it would suck, but not make us feel this horrible.
  • gerb131
    Pretty horrible
  • Ironman92
Nothing......Nothing can even come close to giving this kid what he's lost.....but Nolan Ryan will give it a great effort you can guarantee.

Terrible news, thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
