Tribe needs a bat!...maybe two...who ya gonna give up to get 'em

  • HitsRus
    Propose your fantasy trades.

I wonder if Chase Headley and Ryan Ludwick could be pried out of the last place Padres....I'm willing to give up Chisenhall, Jenmar Gomez and a low level prospect.

    Discuss, propose, dream!
    Let's try to be realistic.
  • Laley23
Well that isnt realistic, cause no way we give up our future for those guys lol.

Id be willing to depart with Gomez and a bat (Kipnis before Lonnie) for David Wright and Reyes. I would try to throw in Sizemore as well, and maybe keep one of the prospects. Mets will be eager to deal at the deadline I think.

^^^Padres are not going to part with a young third baseman (.295 BA ,28 RBI's) without getting someone to replace him. Chisenhall hasn't done a damn thing in the majors, and one thing about prospects is that they are just that.(see Matt LaPorta). You want to win now?...or you just want to wait for the if/come? Ludwick is a RBI machine(47 RBIs) on a weak team. Tribe needs some punch.NOW!

Mets might be willing to deal at the deadline?....that'll be too late for the Tribe. Reyes? I would think he would be untouchable...you are not going to get him for Gomez and Kipnis.

Damn hits, he said it wasn't realistic lol.

Reyes isnt untouchable because he wont do negotiations mid season. Ludwick isnt good enough to get rid of our prospects for. He has had 1 great year and 1 good year with STL with Pujols on the team. This year the only numbers that are worth trading for are the RBIs...and he wont have anyone to drive in on the Tribe.

The Indians need more than a bat. They need a couple bats and a legit starter.
  • riders1
A legitimate outfielder and a firstbaseman and thirdbaseman who can hit. Someone like maybe Cubs, 3b Ramirez or OF Soriano, or Astros , OF Carlos Lee. There just aren't a lot of available hitters that fill the Indians needs at a reasonable cost. The hitters at Columbus are not ready to step in and carry the load at the major league level, they would be great for support roles but not to be thrust into middle of the lineup pressure spots.

I know it's just fantasy speculation but the rational reality is that there's no way anything of significance for immediate impact should be done through trade.

Coming into this season this team lacked depth and experience. Nothing has changed. A deep playoff run would be part luck and part everything coming together at the right time. The goal should be to remain flexible so that as the team matures you have the ability to make a big move that has immediate impact. In addition, adding depth where weakness exists....right handed stick/#1 pitcher, etc....should be attempted with that talent being in a phase of their development that would be projected to peak at the same time this team would ...which isn't going to be this year.

How much do you think they'd spend? Headly is an unrestricted FA next year making just 2.5 million.
  • HitsRus
How much would you want to spend?......both Headley and Ludwick are FA next year, making a total of $2.5 and $6.5 mill respectively.
At least 4 teams are interested in aquiring Ludwick.

Reyes makes $11 million all by himself. He is also a SS. We need a 3B with a bat.

this is a silly thread. We still have a Dolan running things...lol. I think that maybe they will try to get Kenny Lofton or Chuck Finley...that is about it.

At 2.5 million Headley is worth it. But not much more than that. He doesnt hit for any kind of power (HR) at 3B. Thats pretty bad. He is a career .265 hitter (all 3 years prior to this in the .260s.). Now, he may be turning a corner, or it may be a contract year, who knows. His doubles and Average are way up, but HRs are way down (just 2). Granted he is in SD, But he only has 4 more (19/15) HRs on the road than at home. I dont know how much he is worth spending money on. Solid player sure, but I wouldnt consider him for anything but the 6th spot in a playoff contender.

A cheap but perhaps sleeper pickup for somebody, I think could be Marcus Thames.

Not right now since he tweaked something the other day and could go on the DL.

He's only hitting .207 for the Dodgers but if you look at the last few years he's had good OPS numbers and good power usually in a reserve role.

Most realistic post here. If you want the Indians to make a change, we need Dolan to sell the team to Mark Cuban. Trading away our prospects will just set this team back. I would be all for it if we were still 15+ games above .500, but now that we are inching closer to .500 by the day, it would be just useless.

This is especially why I thought it would be idiotic to trade for Casey Blake.

I agreed with that philosophy which was expoused by Mark Shapiro during the rebuilding of the Tribe 2003-5....you can see where that got us. I've come to the conclusion that the best laid plans of men are vulnerable to all sorts unforseen happenings....and hence when an opportunity arises, you have to seize it. The Tribe has been going thru a stretch where they keep losing one run games, all of which could have been won with a single hit at any of a number of places. The pitching is adequate for a run...in fact it has been damn good.

I was thinking more along the lines of trading anyone making above the league minimum for some career A ballers that have already had 3 surgeries, Dennis Martinez, and a box of big league chew.

Exactly. This team makes me miss Aaron Boone.

we've been in first place for 3 months....and you guys are saying we don't want to trade the future?...let's just wait till 2013?

i absolutely think they should go "all in" like Milwaukee did with CC. I would love for them to mortgage the future to make a run at a championship. The problem is that I think they are several pieces away from being a championship team...we are just lucky that we play in a garbage division. Whoever wins this thing is more than likely just going to get swept out of the 1st round of the playoffs. I still would like to see the ownership get some balls and take a chance though.

What place you are in isn't what makes the decision. How much talent level you have does. If the Indians were in 3rd place and were loaded but only a piece or two away I way say mortgage the future and take a chance. They aren't. they are an inexperienced team with no depth and no ace.

once you get to the dance, anything can happen. Having been through this before, I'm not sure if it really makes sense to squander the opportunity, given that when we were "supposed" to make a run,(2008) we went into the crapper.
  • Laley23
Id much rather save these guys and trade them next year if we are in contention. No piece is going to save this team. The only thing that will save them is the offense starting to hit. But thats on the guys we have.

I understand and agree to a certain point. What I'm saying is this team doesn't have, even in a crappy division, the depth and talent to "get to the dance". Being in first place for 2 1/2 months means nothing. All that matters is being in first place at the end of September and I just don't see the talent to do that...even with a big trade. It would take multiple pieces, pieces that I don't see coming available.

CC for Bryson, Jackson, LaPorta, and Brantley seemed like the future for Milwaukee, but look at that deal now and by the way Milwaukee is also in 1st place now so that deal did not hurt them at all. Most fans overvalue their prospects but how many turn into great major league talent, it now looks like 3 stiffs and an okay outfielder in that trade, would you rather have CC or those 4 now?

Although CC went 11-2 for the Brewers they lost in the LDCS 3-1 to the Phillies.

You're right riders. The farther away a player is from their full potential the more benefit of the doubt they are given.
