Former Buckeye and Marion Local Flyer now in the Padres Rotation.
-
thavoiceMost around the state know this school for their football prowess as Maria Stein Marion Local, but locals just call it Marion Local.
FOrmer Graduate Cory Luebke, who pitched for OSU, was called up last year and started in the BP this season. Other than one bad outting vs the Reds in extra innings where he gave up 6 runs, Cory has been stellar outta the pen.
He has always been a starter so this move shouldnt be too much of a stretch for him. May take him a little time to build back his arm strength to go 6+ but at least he is getting a shot.
Cory was drafted three times, once out of HS (17th round I think, PIrates), and after he was 21 (20 something by the Rangers) and the last time he was a 'sandwich round' pick between the first and second round by the Padres.
It has taken him a few years to make it but he finally is in the rotation! Was lucky enough to see him pitch 4-5 times in the minors when he was with the Wizards in Ft Wayne.
Goodluck to one of the local boys!

TBone14Good for him. Good luck to him.

THE4RINGZCongratulations.
-
June18I saw him pitch @ OSU. Pretty cool. Congrats
-
thavoiceI believe his start will be Sunday at 4:05.
-
karen lotzHe will throw 7 shut out innings and strikeout 12.
-
thavoiceI will take that bet there!
He has been in the BP for the end of last year, through ST and thus far in the season. Dont see him going 7 unless he gets alot of quick easy innings with his pitch count down, something you dont get with 12 K's.
but I would love it if he did have that stat line! -
karen lotzBraves make pitchers making debuts look like Cy Young routinely. They have had 4 pitchers already this year set career highs in strikeouts against them.
-
FootwedgeTime to look up Alex Wimmers and see how he's been doing.
Just a matter of time for him. -
karen lotz5 innings, 1 hit, 6 strikeouts, 0 runs. He was on a pitch count or he would have given my projection a run.
-
thavoiceand that is why I knew he wouldnt get to your projection!
I think the last real 'start' he had where he could extend out was last summer before being called up. Unsure about this spring training.
Heard from him today. He was pretty excited, or course, but says it is only one start!
Hope he gets to start in Cincy. Think sat nite is his next start -
thavoiceMade his second start saturday night.
6 IP. 2 Hits. 0 Runs 7 K's.
So far in two starts he has given up 3 hits, 0 runs, 13 K's, 2 BB (I think) in 11 innings pitched.
Pretty impressive as they start to rebuild up his stamina. He was a starter up until getting called up last fall. Unsure if he pitched extended this spring at all.
To date, Cory is 2-2 with a ERA of 2.52 in 50 IP. 56 K's in 50 IP and only 17 walks. His WHIP this year is .88 and career (17.2 IP last season his WHIP is .99).
Take out his one disasterous start and his era is 1.47
