Reds are hawt right now, I see at the very least 2 out of 3.

That Lind guy for Toronto has been en fuego, gotta keep him tame because you know Bautista will hit 8 HRs in GABP.

Former Red Zach Stewart made a very impressive debut for Toronto today, he was the centerpiece to the Rolen trade.

Encarnacion and Patterson will be in town, EE is basically a DH though so he may not play.

I think the Reds take 2 of 3, they played well against the Brewers when they got back from their last long road trip.
  • Ironman92
Did they do really good on their last road trip before playing the Brewers?
  • jordo212000
Lol I can't believe Patterson is still around. I've got to give him credit, last time I looked he was putting up solid numbers in Toronto
  • dave
Really don't think how they played on the roadie matters for tomorrow. It's more about how the trip back and day off affect how they feel tomorrow. If you want to go by past results, the 2 times they've swept a series they've won the next 2 games as well.

    interesting quote from BP today:

"It’s going to be hard to keep me here … I’m not trying to break the bank. I’m just trying to be fair. I don’t want Jayson Werth money or CC Sabathia money.”

At age 26, Robinson Cano signed a 6-year, 55 million dollar deal.

Brandon Phillips, right now, is 29-years old. He's one of the top 3 second baseman in MLB and the best defensive player at his position. He's a well-liked player who from all reports, has been a leader on and off the field.

Therefore, HE'S RIGHT. If the Reds are serious about winning big, you keep him here and you pay him comparable money to what Cano got, at least for the next 3-4 years.

Before the season I thought the Reds could survive just fine by replacing him with Valaika or Cozart, but now I completely have changed my opinion. They have to have Phillips.

    Get him paid Jocketty

That Cano contract is not a valid comparable, pretty sure that bought out his last 2 or 3 years of arbitration. BP will get more than $9mil a year even though he is a little older. Cano and Utley are both going to make close to $15mil over the next few years

Homer got roughed up tonight, he'll need another start in AAA. Cozart and Sappelt continue to dominate.

1 hr and 10 singles. A lot of those singles become outs in the bigs. Not worried.

I would be interested in hearing what the circumstances were behind all of those hits.

I pretty much agree though, one tough luck start in AAA doesn't mean you aren't ready. If he is 100% healthy, I see no reason why he shouldn't be back in the big leagues. He's already proven he can be a solid big league starter, it would be asinine to "punish" him for a bad start by keeping him in AAA

Who is he going to replace? If he still has re-hab time coming, why not wait until thee is someone worthy of being replaced, or a new injury happens. Make him be lights out in AAA, before you replace someone not worthy of being replaced.

BP is already making over $11 million this year. Based on that, the price needed will be well over his current salary. Reds can't keep everyone without being un-smart and breaking the bank. Attendance is no where near being able to spend more.

Agreed. But you have to figure that Votto will be gone in a few years. You can't keep everyone. But you can't let everyone get away as well.

I'm not so sure about Votto leaving. He's not a big market personality, so they may make it easier for the Reds to keep him.

I'm not saying he gets a similar deal. I'm saying that Cano deal, BEFORE he was a free agent, is comparable to where you start. Remember, Phillips will sign his next contract at 30 or 31...not 26. So yes, a deal with similar value IS comparable. He isn't going to get a 5 or 6 year deal. However, a deal worth say 40-45M over 3-4 years is more than fair. 3 years/40-42M or 4 years/45-48M, etc...

Cano is also a better hitter, plays in the AL and is in New York. So using him as a baseline for a deal can be slightly off...but still.
