Reds @ Giants....game 2
-
Ironman92Reds are 8-3 when I start the thread.
Phillips going to RF is a great sign...Gomes going to RF is unbelievable. -
thavoiceWatched some of the game, probably 2/3 of it but didnt see any of the runs. Went to bed when Cueto was shaking hands in the dugout signifying he was being taken out.
Didnt see Gomes hits....were they hits to RF that he looked like he was trying to becuase of where it was pitched or was it accidental?
I have seen guys get a hit oppo and people say "great job, way to go the other way" but in reality he did pull his head, hips flew open, and he just got lucky.
Phillips is his best when he hits to RC. He gets into funks when he tries to hit a 3 run HR with only one guy on base. He swings outta his shoes a bit too often for what he should. Guys like him cannot get away with that type of hitting.
Who are the reds facing tonite? -
SportsAndLadyVogelsong, 4-1 with a sub 2 ERA

SportsAndLady...wrote:Now 33, Vogelsong hasn't started against the Reds since Sept. 24, 2004, with Pittsburgh. He faced just seven batters and was ripped for seven runs and four hits with three walks in a 14-8 loss.
Overall, Vogelsong is 2/3 with a 6.15 ERA in 11 games, including four starts, versus the Reds (33-31). -
se-alumThe Reds are still leaving way too many guys on base. Luckily, the SF offense is pitiful, so there's a bit more room for error in this series.
-
Ironman92Gomes had some woeful swings as usual like Phillips trying to hit the 3 run pull HR....but with 2 strikes......purposely went oppo.
My question is...if they can do it on one swing....but rarely ever hit the 3 run HR...wouldn't it be more productive to go oppo far more often....not just with 2 strikes -
jordo212000Hopefully I survive for the entire game tonight. I fell asleep on the couch before the game even started last night

Those visions of sugar plums(HRs) must dance in their head, and must cause uncontrollably bad plate approaches in efforts to realize their visions! When the Reds played at Arizona in early April, their line-up was tough, with very good plate approaches. They got rid of some of their sugar plum vision guys and somehow must have convinced the others, with some of Gibson's high profile coaches being a part of it, to take those good plate approaches. The results of their season are pretty good so far with them near the lead in the NL west, even though they were picked to be pretty bad. There is a lot to be said for playing smart compared to wasting a lot of talent chasing visions of sugar plums. Those good plate approaches run up pitch counts and get you to the bullpens earlier!Ironman92;797843 wrote:Gomes had some woeful swings as usual like Phillips trying to hit the 3 run pull HR....but with 2 strikes......purposely went oppo.

Ironman92It's not important to get to a bullpen is it?

Dude made worthless look good when he was with the Pirates for a short time. His first fucking start with the Giants, he beats the Pirates. Please, just fucking kick his ass. I'm talking nine runs in 2+ innings shit that ends with someone rocketing a line drive right into his groin. -

HAHA
Poor Brandon Phillips, he must feel so left out. -
Ironman92Heisey with his token start every 2 weeks.
-
zach24ozI don't mind the lineup...not too bad IMO. How has Janish/Renteria been? Haven't been able to see many games this past week.
-
daveRenteria was out for a week, came back last night and looked pretty bad at the plate.
Janish got his first extra base hit in over a month but made a critical error in the loss to the Cubs.
Zack Cozart is hitting near .500 in AAA lately with something like a 15 game hitting streak but won't get a shot. -
davethis has to be one of if not the best defensive lineups in baseball. might be slightly better with Bronson on the mound.
-
Ironman92Earlier in the year Janish had an extra base hit in 4 consecutive games...the Reds went 2-2 in those games.
-
dave5.5 runs per game and that's just with a single extra base hit each game, all doubles. Cozart has the ability to hit homers and doubles every time up. Teams will be careful with him, he can draw walks, turn the lineup over.

We have to face the facts, unless there is an injury to Renteria or Janish, we will not see Cozart until September, unfortunately. -
Ironman92If anything if he were to be brought up he could maybe be one of those guys who tears up the league until the league figures him out. Seems like one or two players a year do that.
I still don't care one way or the other...but I also don't think anyone in the minors is going to make much of any difference. My issues begin with Dusty and I believe he would use Cozart in a not great way. -
se-alumPhillips w/ another oppo base hit.
-
Ironman92Wood getting hit hard....fortunately Cody Ross got greedy and Heisey three him out.
