Should Indians propose a trade for David Wright?

  • areyoukiddingme
Would David Wright make a solid pitcher in the Indians' rotation? The Mets would want a very good deal.

I see they are also considering washing their hands of Jose Reyes who is a very good hitter and has some speed.

What could the Indians offer in return?

Wut? Unless he's switched from 3rd base to pitcher overnight, this is news to me.

EDIT: Although he can't do much worse than Carmona has recently. :D

Id love David Wright, but not with Chisenhall in the minors. Wright is a great fielder at 3rd (not a pitcher, lol). However, I dont think we see Lonnie this season, which makes it very tempting. We definitely have the prospects to make a trade or 2 while still keeping some of the key guys and I would love to see it happen. I thought I heard rumors that Bautista might be available...that would be epic. No to Jose Reyes, he gets hurt to often.

No thanks, the Indians already have enough underachievers batting .250 or below. If Cleveland is going to trade for a guy that is 100% going to leave once his contract is up, it better be a guy who is having a legit all star season.

    +1 to br's comment though.

1 bad year, to date. Id put some money on him having a phenomenal second half and getting back to the averages hes had for the last 7 seasons. The only bad end of the year number he has EVER put up is 10 HR in 2009.

Hes got a team option for 2013 as well (for like 15 million).

I've read some rumors of Bautista being available, but I would be surprised if it's true. However, if he is available, there will be ALOT of teams calling up the Jays. Bautista just signed a new contract, and it's really not a bad contract to take on, even for smaller market teams. The Indians and Reds definitely have the pieces to put together to get him.

I agree. Id give up just about anything for Bautista. Probably would be reluctant to give up on Pomeranz, and from the minors, thats about it. Tribe definitely has the minor league talent to get it done if the rumors are true (which frankly, makes no sense imo).

I would throw in Grady in that deal and have Brantley in center. I think Brantley is more important to this team than Grady

I'd have no issue in moving Sizemore. Dude is another China Doll.

I can't see them trading Sizemore. It's between him and Choo for the most popular player amongst fans. It would be public relations suicide.

If they're looking for an infielder-turned-pitcher, I'd go for Wilson Valdez before David Wright.

    NOBODY touches the 87-mph fastball!

Why would it be PR suicide? Most fans in the know realize that he's nothing more than "Brokeback" Grady...and I mean that in an injury sense not an "it's raining men" sense. Move him while there's still value.

OH NO! You might lose that key 15-35 female demographic!!!! I think most people who follow baseball look at Sizemore as a former five-tool player whose injury history has ensured he'll never the player people thought he'd be simply because he'll never be healthy enough to play a full season. If a team is dumb enough to give you something good for him, you have to jump on it.

No shit. I heard this topic being discussed on WKNR. They were saying, in jest, "you can't trade Grady because after dumping Brady Quinn you'd have a Grady's/Brady's Ladies mutiny !!!" So what? For the most part MOST of those chicks (not ALL) wouldn't know what a baseball was if it hit em in the melon.

Agreed I think it's time to move on while he's still valuable

pretty sure 95% of fans would be thrilled if Grady was traded in a move that added a significant piece to the team. When is the last time they've even done that midseason?

    Anyway, Wright isn't coming here.

Lee, Sabathia & V-Mart I was pretty pissed about but after what we've seen from Sizemore the last few years I'd be indifferent.

Probably when John Hart was still running things.

Kearns needs to GTFO now! Bring Cord Phelps and some kids up from the minors. Phase out O Cab, Hannahan. The kids will not do worse at the plate than them.
  • Fab4Runner
FWIW...Grady is hot as fuck but I wouldn't be sad if we traded him. I wish he had been able to avoid all of the injuries but it happens.
  • hoops23
If you van trade Grady for a legit Piece in return, then by all means do so.

I like the guy, but he's too brittle for the long haul of a season. So talented it's a shame. His K's piss me off too.

It's amazing to me how these guys can be in such great shape, but get injured on plays where there is no contact.

I'd imagine I'm much older than you but back in the day, you never heard of guys going on the DL for "oblique strains/tears" (see Hafner). I think a lot of it can be attributed to weight training. Some of the guys bulk up TOO much. And this is coming from a guy who is "rah rah" when it comes to lifting.

Pretty sure you're exaggerating on the 95%. As was said above, baseball knowledgeable people may be alright with it. But that's hardly 95% of the fan base. He's more popular than you are giving credit.

Agreed he's popular. But you know who else would be popular? A guy who could hit for a decent average and hit bombs off the scoreboard. Bautista would be very popular if the Tribe were to put together a package for him. Do I think that will happen? Of course not.
