BigAppleBuckeyeLate to the dance here, but this really hit home when I heard the news. "Kid" was one of my childhood heroes, and certainly one of my favorite Mets of all-time (somewhere behind Hernandez, Piazza and Doc). I really, really hope for the best, most accounts label Carter as a genuinely good guy. Hate to hear this.

thavoiceI was a big mets fan for awhile. Guy from our town was drafted in the 3rd round by the mets in 1984 and I instantly became a fan. Dr K was my favorite pitcher and that is why I always wore #16. I can remember this guy would tell me 'do you really wanna know what Dwight and Darryl do in their spare time'?
He never told me but a few years later when all the drug stuff came out it was apparent what he was talking about.
Also told me a good story about Dykstra. Said one night he left the bar, they were looking for him and saw some car bouncing up and down. They go up to it...look in to fuck around with him and Lenny looks up.....he is nailing some broad, and he smiles...and has chaw all over his face dripping all over the lady he was banging!
but yeah...terrible to hear this about The Kid. Hope he can recover -
BigAppleBuckeyeYou should read "The Bad Guys Won," a great book about the '86 Mets. Hilarious story about how after they beat Houston to win the '86 NLCS, they chartered a flight back to New York and everyone got hammered, puking on their wives, with a huge food fight on the plane. What a bunch of knuckleheads, if not for drugs and booze, the Mets would have been a dynasty. They just missed winning the NL East in '87 after Gooden got suspended for drug use, and in '88 they lost in 7 games in the NLCS to the Dodgers after Gooden gave up a heartbreaking 9th inning bomb to Mike Scoscia in Game 4 (which tied the series at 2-2 instead of the Mets taking a commanding 3-1 lead).

thavoiceMaybe I will. My interest in hte mets went down quickly after the guy from our town got hurt and wasnt in the organization anymore, and the fact that my fav players were druggies and such and went back to the team I liked before...The Reds. I guess it was just a small affair with the Mets! I remember them beating the Stros in like the 16 inning in houston.
