Hall of Fame or Not??

Commander of Awesome;772883 wrote:No to both. lol at you trying to bait ppl into saying rolen is a HOFer. Stop being a wimp and post the players name. Stats are for losers, when debating players I dont even look at stats. It should be a no brainer "Yes" when I think of the player. If I have to look at stats than the arguement is over.

This is actually a common way we've discussed this kind of topic before. I believe Ironman92 used to do this a lot back on the huddle.

Which is why this is a thread started by a Reds fan using a current Red's career stats to ask if he should be in the Hall. And why a Cleveland fan used Ozzie Smith being in to say that Omar Vizquel (former Indian) should be in if he's in. But it's only Pittsburgh fans. Bravo!

I am not a Cleveland fan! Unless you are talking about Laley haha

LOL.....some of you are looking too far into this. I'm not trying to get people to say Rolen should be in because I'm a Reds fan. There was a discussion about Rolen's importance to the lineup on another thread, that lead to me looking up his career stats out of curiosity, then I compared them to some stats of current HOF 3rd basemen just to see how he added up to them. That lead to this question. It's just a simple question about a player, not me somehow trying to promote a Reds player.

he means me, saying that if Ozzie is in, so should Omar. But Ill stad behind the statement till the day I die (but I wont have to, cause O will be in before I die).

Also, yes, Vizquel should be in.

Oh, I have no objections to Omar being in. I was just laughing at how Raw got hard because he got to argue with Rock and decided to come up with a cute argument about how apparently only Pittsburgh fans overrate their players on a thread that has nothing to do with Pittsburgh.

    Slow day at work.

I can understand that. IE: Why I bothered responding.

I usually did this when I wanted to make others aware of a player with surprisingly good or bad career stats...before I started doing trivia.

I'd say that Gary Carter at least has a marginally better shot of induction that Gary Majewski. But I'm no expert.

not unless he wears (wore) pinstripes

Bingo! Went in as an Expo, despite winning his ring with the Mets, weak!

Yeah. I agree he's a no doubter and possibly first ballot HOFer, but there always seems to be a lot of discussion whether he will get in.

I wouldn't know why. He's in the no-brainer category for me. And I fucking hate the Atlanta Braves, and by proxy, you. I will never forget 1991 and 1992, you bastard!

You have to realize these numbers arent all just cut and dry for the HOF. For instance, a guy that played Catcher for 15 yrs will get in with less numbers than an outfielder. The same usually goes for a 2nd baseman.

I agree Larry Wayne Jones is a 1st ballot HOF'er. I lived in Atlanta from 1992-2000 and went to about 12-15 games a year. I watched him grow up on the diamond. He had one hiccup off the field with the Hooters waitress but other than that never any legal issues and a pretty stand up guy.

I'd say no on Vizquel, his hit total is big but he's also played 22 seasons.

O is a an easy yes for me. His hit total is large and a lot has been because of his years...but other than 1 year in SF, he hasnt "slowed" per se in the average category.

I say easy yes, but I wouldnt say first ballot. He didnt dominate the league enough for me to be a first ballot. For me, first ballot guys have multiple MVPs/Cy Youngs and were dominant in the other years (perennial top 5 in those awards). The A-Rods, Pujols, Halladays, etc.

The exception is a non offensive position, where you dominated the others at said position for the time frame (Jeter, Pudge, etc). But Chipper is a 3B, so he cant make that claim. Easily will be in after the first ballot though.
