Manchester United Win Record 19th English Title

rock_knutneBy virtue of their 1-1 draw at Blackburn yesterday.
I can't believe none of the football fans on here are talking about this. Truly a historic achievement by Sir Alex Ferguson, especially by backing up his words when he said back in the early 90's he was going to "knock Liverpool off their bloody perch", well he did it. Greatest manager in the game IMO.
Thoughts............. -
karen lotzYou spelled "soccer" wrong.

september63Is this a Pittsburgh Penguins thread? Oh wait, nevermind. A Pirates thread?
When the sporting life is sucking in Pittsburgh is this what you all do? Talk about soccer? -

You don't like the sport then don't post on the fucking thread!september63;768837 wrote:Is this a Pittsburgh Penguins thread? Oh wait, nevermind. A Pirates thread?

hoops23I love ManU, but many on here don't. So I haven't talked much about them.
I'm very pleased (obviously) with how this year has went.
Dimitar Berbatov had a great year scoring wise. I believe it's the most goals scored in his career. Javier Hernandez was a solid addition and was second on the team in Goals scored. Rooney wasn't relied on as much as he was last season when he scored 26 goals. His goal scoring was WAY down this season, but he had more help around him.
Also, Luis Nani was amazing on the attack all year long, creating goal opportunities for his teammates.
4 in 5 years. -

What a steal at 6 million. Kid scored 20 goals this year, important goals too. -
iclfan2Watched the game yesterday morning. Why wasn't Berbatov starting? I also think the PK was ticky tacky. It was a foul but there would have been no scoring chance. Think you have to let those go. Oh well. I don't mind Man U so I'm glad they won. Is the next game for them the EUFA Cup Championship vs. Barca?

gorocks99Who do I root for in the Champions League final? Oh, right. The meteor.

AutomatikI despise United, but I will give credit where it is due. To me the difference between them and the others behind them that have a chance to win the league is, for the most part, they always come to play. SAF has to get the credit for that. They rarely drop points to inferior clubs.
That being said....Lets go Barca!!! -
DeyDurkie5The spurs will be winners next year

ptown_trojans_1You can win a title off a tie? That sounds like the lamest way to win a title ever. No playoffs? No sudden death?
On another note, why do they still allow ties?
Get with the program like hockey and have a no tie system. -

The tie got them enough points to clinch the title...they didn't win the whole thing by a tie against this team, just earned the point that put them mathematically clear -

Because Chicharito is better. Bebrbatov did score a ton of goals this year but he had multiple goals in a single game numerous times, he had several hat tricks and scored five in one.iclfan2;768894 wrote:Watched the game yesterday morning. On the penalty.......the way they explained is that Chicharito had a touch on the ball to get by Robinson who made contact after the fact. If Robinson doesn't go to ground and make contact, the ball goes out of play for a goal kick, bad challenge on his part. -
rock_knutneAnother thing that needs to be recognized is that not only is this United's fourth EPL title in five years, they are also playing in their third UCL final in four years, pretty impressive.
-
Pick6Easy to win championships when you have one of the best teams money can buy. They are basically the Yankees of the EPL

This was for the regular league season league titles. Euro league soccer is structure and season's are much different than than our "big 4." The season is longer and involves multiple competitions.
In basic terms....you want to go after trophies.
Regular season title
Carling Cup
FA Cup
Champions League
lol....a "no tie system" cannot happen. That is absurd. -

As usual, you're fucking clueless! Chelsea and recently, Manchester City have out spent Man U the last several years and by a ridiculous margin of money too.Pick6;769116 wrote:Easy to win championships when you have one of the best teams money can buy. They are basically the Yankees of the EPL -

Yea, I understand what happened, I just don't think you should get a penalty kick on a play where you couldn't have scored. Unfortunately that means you'd have to let the goalie get away with it, I just hate giving a team a free goal for it. I'll be rooting for Man U in Champions League. I need to get back into watching more soccer.rock_knutne;769111 wrote:On the penalty.......the way they explained is that Chicharito had a touch on the ball to get by Robinson who made contact after the fact. how am I clueless? You said they were out spent the past several years. Pretty sure they didnt win their 19 titles in the past "several" years lol. -
AutomatikI'd say that comparison legit. I know a ridiculous amount of United fans. Their brand, like the Yankees, is massive. Easily the biggest bandwagon team in the world.

Back in the early 90's when they rose to power in England it was Liverpool who had all the cash and United's team was mostly made/built with players from their own youth academy. I'm right, you're fucking clueless!Pick6;769140 wrote:how am I clueless? You said they were out spent the past several years. The comparison is legit as far as fans go but as far as money goes it's not. Just because they have the most recognized brand in the world and the club is top three in worth globally doesn't mean they spend like the Yankees do. SAF will sell if the money is right, no players is bigger than the club, probably why they have been so successful. -

Ahh, so they won nothing. I thought they won the whole thing on a tie.
That makes little more sense.
They are the Spurs of the soccer world.
A no tie system can't happen? No shootouts? No OTs with different rules and fewer players like hockey? -

In regular season play and group stages play in competitions ties occur.
During the knockout rounds a tie game goes to 30 minutes of extra time. If still no score then penalty kicks. -

All american soccer fans who like teams outside the states are bandwagoners then.. You can't just label it to one team..
If I'm a bandwagoner for liking ManU, then anybody who likes Chelsea, Arsenal, Barca, Madrid, etc, are bandwagoners..
