    LOL I should edit.

How the hell will carpenter explain the tornado to his son.

Typical f'n reds.... Can't get the runner in from 3rd with one out
  • Midstate01
And I fully expect Maloney to give up at least 3 runs in the first.
  • gerb131
Maloney isn't half bad in these spots. I think he'll keep it together for 5 or so.

LOL Beach or game 19 shouldn't be a tough decision.

Well the beach is here everyday, I was happy cause of the delay to get the game at 4:30pm here. But after that first run, I can see the writing on the wall.

And the beach is a good walk from the house.... So I'm just gonna walk the path that runs beside pearl harbor instead.

Bad baserunning there...sigh. Reds should have 2 runs.

    Thanks. Pushed back to tomorrow?

    I think they said Sunday.

Smith really pitched well. Getting 3 innings out of him was great!

WTF is up with Bruce not going home? In MLB they almost ALWAYS go on contact with one out unles back to the pitcher......and the ball was hit to the SS and he was conceding the run.

It si only one run...but you NEVER KNOW what unfolds after that. Each run changes the complexion of the game

Horrible baserunning by Bruce and then it was topped by Heisey as his coach at 1st (Hatcher) was yelling back back DURING the pitch and he still got hung off and forced Cairo out at 3rd....idiotic.

Reds made too many dumb mistakes.....and did not deserve to win.
  • thavoice
No doubt....he was so far off base there....rediculous.

There are aggressive mistakes that I can live with in trying to stretch another base and force the other team to make the perfect play but those two last night were just idiotic.

I laughed...when I cursed Bruce for not going my wife said "I am sure he knws more about baseball than you" and I said 'listen...the announers will rip him too" and on cue the Creaper voiced his opinion as well. So of course.....one in the W for thavoice

I think Bruce's thinking was the ball might stay in the air until it got to the SS and he would be doubled off if he went on contact.
  • Ironman92
Oh he definitely didn't score for that reason...but if he checks the positioning of the defensive players he reads that play better and scores. It wasn't that close and it is MLB baseball.

He's not alone but he needs to pick it up.

I agree, I'm just saying it wasn't as simple as the ball on the way to SS and taking its first bounce 10' in front of the plate. It was pretty similar to Hanigan today in the 8th on 2nd with one out and not going to 3B on Stubbs' grounder to 2B. I assume he didn't go because he thought the P might snag it and pick him off.

Baserunning is a risk/reward situation with the best baserunners taking into account many many factors as the play develops, and especially in evaluating the situation before the pitch. For instance the tying runner on 2nd with one out in the 6th in a 1-0 game and the hitting team's terrible hitting pitcher has only 73 pitches and is on deck, and the batter bloops one into RF which may fall in. It's an easy decision if there are two outs, but with one if you don't go and it drops you just lost probably your best chance to score that inning, if you go and they catch it for an inning ending DP, many think it is a stupid baserunning play, which it probably isn't.
