Commander of Awesomerough game, just a few bad breaks for the hawks. they had a great setup on that PP in overtime, that backdoor play from behind the net, give luongo credit he came up big when they needed it the most. i still don't see him as a big time goaltender though. he was kicking the puck around all night, simple glove saves ended up being rebounded up in the air, in the slot, etc.
as far as the hawks go, i think it was a valiant effort in a year where nothing seemed to go their way (other than dallas choking on the final day) but i think they found a few things out about themselves:
crawford is good. i don't know if he's an all star, but he was the best player on the ice yesterday (him or burrows) he's a free agent, i don't think he'll command big money but i think they should pay him on a 1-2 year deal. turco comes off the books too so i think they can afford it.
i like bickell a lot, i think he can develop into a really really good grinder. big body, can hold the puck for that extra second, seems to find the net in crucial spots. the guy also played with a screwed up hand, i love the heart.
not a fan of stalberg. he's got serious wheels but he's kris versteeg 2.0. a worthless player that looked better because the other guys around him were great.
i think campoli is a solid 5th defenseman. if you go keith/seabrook, cambell/hjalmarsson, and campoli as a guy who can spot between those 2 lines, you're in good shape. add in crawford and your defensive zone is pretty much set.
i go back and forth on frolic, but as a 3rd/4th liner i think you're ok.
i don't think it was roster as much as it was hangover/being spent. most people around here think the reason the hawks didn't finish at the top of the west was because they had to unload a bunch of guys after winning the cup. those people don't understand the salary cap and how it works.
but if you think about it, last year, they played an entire season, a full 4 round playoff, won a very emotional series. had to deal with everything that came with winning the cup, on top of 4 of their top players having to deal with the olympics (toews, seabrook, keith all won gold, kane won silver). i just think those guys were spent. i honestly don't think they had much of an offseason. those guys didn't have the jump that they did before. i think the front office makes a few moves, and they are very very strong next season. i would put money on it.
and i gotta bag the nhl for their scheduling again. you have 2 game 7's tonight, the b's/habs series is 2 days in a row. you're telling me you're going to schedule the most important game of both boston and montreal's seasons on the second leg of a back to back. bettman come on man. epic fail.
i am 6 of 8 on my predictions, with tampa and boston needing to win to give me a perfect round. shoulda gone to vegas on that one -

gorocks99We're all set for the Conference Semis:

ptown_trojans_1What a game last night. I was nearly asleep and then jumped out of bed. This morning sucked. I think Ih ad 3 maybe 4 cups of coffee ha. Great win for the Canucks.
The Habs-Bruins game was great too. Of course it had to go into OT. Great way to end it.
As to the next round. First thoughts:
Flyers vs Bruins: I like the Flyers in 7. No reason really, just a toss up. Going to be a physical series though.
Capitals vs Lightning: Caps in 6. Caps have defense now, but Tampa is playing really well, so will go deep.
Sharks vs Red Wings: Great series here and I like the Sharks in 7. Wings are the Wings, and can but up the goals, but the Sharks' defense is good enough to win it.
Canucks vs Predators: Canucks are too much for Nashville really. Nashville benefited form a really injured Ducks team. I like the Canucks in 5, probably 6 though as the Preds are really annoying on the offensive end. -
Raw Dawgin' itVancouver and Nashville kick off round two tonight. What are everyones series predictions?
Canucks in 6
San Jose in 7
Capitals in 6
Bruins in 7 -
End of LineNashville in 7
Detroit in 6
Washington in 6
Flyers in 7 (The flyers need Carter to get healthy quick, if they want to make another long run) -

What makes you think nashville? I think after that scare that vancouver will a lot strongerThe_Crosby_Show;752720 wrote:Nashville in 7

gorocks99I like Vancouver to win but I don't think it will be easy. Nashville can and will be physical, and Luongo (as is proven time and time again) will lose some games. If Rinne gets hot Nashville has as good a chance as any. Not to mention the Preds home record is great this year. Nine regulation losses during the season (tied with Vancouver for least in the conference) and 2-1 in the playoffs.
-
gorocks99Anyhow, my predictions for round 2:
Canucks over Preds in 6 ('Nucks and Preds split the first four games before Vancouver closes out winning games 5 and 6)
San Jose over Detroit in 7 (San Jose has Detroit's number. I've felt since the playoffs began that the Sharks are the one team Detroit didn't want to face. It won't be as bad as last year but the Red Wings don't get it done here)
Caps over Lightning in 7 (Caps are the better team - but seeing how Roloson is playing I can't see Tampa folding up shop easily)
Flyers over Bruins in 6 (With the caveat that if the B's get their power play figured out, they can take it in 6 or 7. I feel like Philly is getting things figured out now that they should be done with the goaltender musical chairs) -
like_thatVancouver in 6
Detroit in 6
Washington in 6
Bruins in 7
I think Vancouver finally got over the hump by defeating the hawks. The hawks have been their achilles heel the past few years, and they had to fight thru a near collapse. I think they are more relaxed now, and prepared for anything that is thrown at that, since they nearly missed the worst possible series tragedy a team can go thru (losing 4 in a row after being up 3-0). -
Commander of AwesomeI just worry about nashville getting chances, with the way vancouver outplayed the hawks in that series, nashville might not get 20 shots in a single game. Vancouver owned every zone, and the hawks have 1 great line, another solid line, and despite losing guys are still pretty loaded. Nashville doesn't have that.

Raw Dawgin' itI think jack edwards has lost his fucking mind....
