-
Midstate01161-1 ain't bad
-
BCBulldogOur five (really our 7) against their ace and it comes down to one run isn't the worst thing ever. 161-1 baby!!
-
Terry_TateDamn, was getting my hopes up for 162-0.
-
se-alumWell it may be time to start playing Janish at 3rd when Rolen is out.

Janish so so much better at SS, I'd think they'd be better off playing Renteria at 3B. -
thavoice..and the slide starts......
-
RotinajCan't win em all but damn it sucks any time you lose to the Astros.

Midstate01Really do think fransisco got his shot today. Failed miserably and should be sent to aaa. He really is just not ready. But in 308 at bats last year he had 16 walks. That's terrible!!!
It'd be different if he was swinging at first pitch strikes. But he looks like me playing The Show.... Just swing at everything -

I think every first pitch he swung at was in the strike zone - he just missed them. Breaking balls from the righthander and fastball from the lefty. If you swing at the first pitch, 40% of the swings need to be base hits! Maybe a little less than that if you are facing someone like Maddux. -

I agree. The thing is, this isn't the Reds of the past where it's acceptable to let a guy play that nots ready, because they aren't going to contend anyway. If you're going to be on the roster this year, you HAVE to be able to compete with the big boys, and Francisco showed to today he's not ready to be a big league hitter. Going 0-4 is acceptable because it's going to happen, but going 0-4 and letting the pitcher off the hook 3 times is not.Midstate01;735733 wrote:Really do think fransisco got his shot today. I'm going by what they said on radio. That they weren't strikes. -
stroupsWe still won the series and that's all you can really ask for in the majors.

2-3 all the time is fine by me.
I'd love to see us go have a 4-2 road trip out west. That'd be a great start. -
thavoice.500 on a west coast swing is good for me.
As for Francisco...didnt watch the game so cannot really comment on what pitches he swung at and such. Just because it is a strike on the first pitch does nto mean ya need to swing. If its an off speed, a breaking ball that is difficult to handle or whatnot let it go and look for a pitch ya can handle.
only one game...but the reds do need to have someone who can play 3rd well when Rolen is out. Didnt they say they like to get rolen 130 games or so? -
BCBulldogI think Francisco gets another few shots, but too many more like this and he will lose his roster spot.
-
justincredibleIt was a fun season while it lasted. There is always next year...

charliehustle14Like I said last year, Francisco just really bugs me. The dude might have a nice left-handed swing and a lot of power, but he has no approach at the plate and no discipline. MLB pitchers will figure you out very quickly when you lack both of those. Til he changes that, he'll be one of those AAAA-type players. Tears up AAA but can't do much for the big club. Like I was telling someone today, Francisco is really fortunate to be a 3B. If Alonso was a 3B instead, he'd be up with the club IMO. Francisco is still young I know, but he's got to start producing. I was hoping he'd show a lot of improvement from last year to now, but he really hasn't.

Ironman92Really don't understand why they don't put Janish at third when Rolen sits......Janish is young and will be sharing some time with Renteria and is SOOOOOO much more ready than Francisco.

Because it's Janish and they'll do their best to limit his innings. Must be scared of ruining his arm or something haha -
Mooney44CardsJesus christ, can you guys overreact a little bit more? Is Juan Francisco not allowed to have a bad game? Hell he hasn't really even played since Spring Training other than maybe a pinch hit or pinch run. Cut the guy some slack.....we're 6 games in. He had a better spring than most of the team. He struck out only 10 times in 57 ABs (Drew Stubbs, by comparison struck out 24 times in 58 ABs). He hit for high average, hit more doubles than anyone on the team. He ran into a buzzsaw called Brett Myers. Call me crazy but I'll withhold judgement until the guy knocks a little rust off. Everyone (including me) screamed for Stubbs and/or Bruce to be sent down to AAA last summer, Dusty stuck with them and look what happened.....they were both awesome from august onwards.
BTW, we have ZERO leftys that can play third on the 40-man roster. So we can't afford to sacrifice a lefty off the bench, and we can't afford to lose a guy who spells Rolen every 4 or 5 days, I wonder what you guys would suggest. Wait lemme guess, play Janish at 3B and call up Yonder Alonso? Please. It was one game, if the king of overreaction is telling you that you're overreacting, you've got a problem. -

I somewhat agree, but rust shouldn't have any affect on your plate approach, and hacking away @ 3 first pitches w/ runners in scoring position isn't sound fundamentals. Like I said in my other post, if he was just missing the ball or unable to center, that's acceptable, not getting on board w/ the philosophy that the team has seemed to take thus far, is not.Mooney44Cards;736030 wrote:Jesus christ, can you guys overreact a little bit more? thavoiceMooney isnt too far off....but there is a difference between Stubbs/Bruce and Francisco.
All young players....but two of them are regular every day starters and one is on the bench. Very hard for a young guy to get into a rythm, to improve and work through slumps as a bench player. Typically we like to see a veteran as a backup who knows how to prepare. Kinda like what I say about a backup NFL QB......on a good team like the steelers I wanna have a veteran backing him up an dnot some guy with no experience but still wtih alot of upside.
He will get more PT...his time isnt done yet....but I could see him getting sent down if he has a few more days like this. He needs to be more polished. Rolen will go on the DL at some point this season. Maybe is best Francisso is at AAA playing every day and then come up when that happens.
