    JA Happ vs Mike Leake

Phillips is 2/3 off of Happ with 2 HR

Redlegs win. My wife has some event for work tomorrow so since I'm on my own for dinner I'm just going to head to the ballpark. The weather looks like it's going to be shitty but oh well...

Leake really needs a good outing or he's on the first train down to Louisville once Homer and Cueto come back. I love Leake and his potential, so I would like to be having the discussion of "we have too many good pitchers who do we send down?".

    I feel another sweep coming

I will be in attendance again. Need to get my Stubbs jersey so I can start wearing it to games.

Tough match-up. Happ is tough and Leake had a rough spring. The Reds are by far the better team but I see a L in this one.

He's gone once Cueto and Bailey come back anyway. Just need a couple solid outings from Leake and LeCure.

It will be extremely tough for Leake to repeat last season esp now that the book is out on him. Homer Bailey IMO isn't anything to get excited about and Cueto's injury from all accounts is a cause for concern. Dusty also has a history of ruining young kids arms (see Wood and Prior) which doesnt bode well for Leake/Cueto/Chapman. I really hope he doesn't ruin Chapman's career the way he did Prior and Woods.

I think the history of Dusty ruining arms is BS. Hard throwers are susceptible to injuries because of the amount of torque on the shoulder and elbow when they throw. Look at Strasburg, the Nats were watching his innings, and it didn't matter. I've seen no indication of Dusty leaving guys on the mound too long.

There's always guys who are more susceptible to injureis for sure, but I think Dusty wears his pitchers out. The indication would be Wood and Prior in Chicago; Cueto and Volquez so far in Cincy. I know he has more of an old school mentality but just what I've noticed by his history with pitchers. For Reds fans lets hope reality is closer to your opinion.

I agree with se- alum. Dusty is just the most convenient excuse if things go wrong.

Show me where you think something Dusty has done has affected either Cueto or Bailey leading up to their injuries. Its not like some disease they catch from being around Dusty Baker, he would have to actually do something like pitch them on short rest or make them pitch an unusually high amount of innings. Neither is the case, so you're just completely making shit up and/or repeating something you heard somewhere once. Actual opinions that are worth everyone else here considering should be based, you know, in REALITY.

    Making shit up huh?

"Additionally, many fans, commentators, and writers blamed his tendency to overuse pitchers and for damaging the careers of Robb Nen, Kerry Wood, Mark Prior and Edinson Volquez. Less dramatic cases include Shawn Estes, Bill Swift, John Burkett, Mark Leiter, Kirk Reuter and Aaron Harang. Wood and Prior, along with Edinson Volquez of the Reds, all suffered serious arm injuries following their first full seasons under Baker. Wood and Prior averaged 122 and 126 pitches per start."

"Baker has long been known to put little stock in pitch counts. He's had a pitcher finish in the top-eleven in pitches thrown each of the past six years, and he has left the starter out there for 122 or more pitches 88 times this millennium, more than any other manager."

Yeah you're right, there isnt any evidence of Dusty's MAJOR criticism. /sarcasm. Nice fail on knowing your team.

What did CoA do,jump on the Reds bandwagon?
  • justincredible
Pitchers are more susceptible to injuries than any other position. Unless you have a rubber arm like Halladay or Arroyo you're likely gonna have an arm injury at some point.

A LOT of pitchers on the current injury list. Let me guess, Dusty is to blame?
  • Commander of Awesome
No, I was just airing a concern for Chapman and how I dont think the Reds will be able to have the same season because Baker ruins pitchers. I doubt you get the same production again from Leake, Cueto, Volquez.
  • justincredible
The Reds will win more than 91 games this season so you're right, they won't have the same season.

Nice passive aggressive trolling, btw. Jordo would be proud.

How many pitches do you think Cueto averaged per start last season? Because clearly he was over worked by Dusty, right?

How many pitches do you think Volquez averaged per start in 2008 which was his last full season before injuries? Because clearly he was over worked by Dusty, right?
