I like BR and respect his football knowledge but he was on board with Quinn ( The game manager) at the time, had many arguments with BR on this back in the day.
Oh, and you have too (2 to be exact) may dots after supporter, just supporting the "grammar police" cause.

FIgured that would be the case. HE seems smart and knows the economics of the game. PRobably makes sense for the team to do it this way.....not unlike players who restructure deals and move big lump base sums into signing bonuses to prorate and help franchise

ESPN NFL - Sources: Packers sign LB A.J. Hawk (111 tackles, 3 INT) to 5-yr deal, 1 day after team released him

    Why even release him then?

My guess it has something to do with the contract language he originally signed that may not have been able to be renogiated, I dont know

Read that he was guarenteed 10 million dollar base contract for next season if on the roster by march 3rd. They were never going to pay that base salary so they had to either cut him or have him renogiate the deal.

Maybe they couldnt get a renogiated deal done by then so cut him, and then worked out a deal. It would be in the interest of AJ Hawk to sign the extension now after he was cut..and not much incentive to renogiate the deal prior to the deadline.

He was due 10.5 million base next season, Pack wasn't going to pony that up. Release, resign at a rate in line with his production.

Any truth to the rumor that the Packers cut AJ Hawk? I would love to see him come back to Ohio in a Browns uniform.
