Atlanta's season comes down to a start by Derek Lowe. I think for every out he records I'm taking a shot of Jack.

Joe Madden is a God among men.

After all that Tampa lost in the off-season, and then starting this season 1-8, to drag this team to 89 wins and the verge of a possible playoff berth is simply stunning. When you then consider that they play in the AL East and see the Yankees/Sox 38 times a year, it makes it all that much more remarkable what they have been able to do the past few years.

I think the Red Sox will find a way to back in, but I would love to see the Rays get it done.

Didn't realize he had fallen so far. A win tomorrow and you are guaranteed a playoff though.

If the Red Sox fail to make the postseason, should Francona be shown the door? The pressure is apparently on in Boston. On one hand, he has led the team to 2 WS titles and despite having a great batting order, the management has totally neglected pitching - a rotation of Beckett, Lester, Lackey, Bedard, Wakefield/Weiland is just. Not. Good.

On the other hand, it would mean missing the playoffs the last two years, and no playoff wins since 2008. And, you know, blowing this season hardcore.

Yankees did the same thing with Sabathia, Nova, Colon, Garcia and Burnett and they won the division.

I think its an upper management problem and an organizational depth issue more than Francona. How do you not have any pitching in AAA that can come up and help out?

They've traded all the top ones away to manufacture large chucks of their line-up. If you take 2011 and separate it from previous seasons, you'd have to think having Justin Masterson (who they traded to have Victor Martinez for a couple years) would have been a big aid to their rotation.

Please tell me Tim Hudson is going tomorrow!

If they go to a one game playoff I might seriously start Venters, pitch him till he can't, bring in O'Flarehty(sp) for two or so and let Kimbrel finish it.
  • karen lotz
    Yes Hudson tomorrow.
  • karen lotz
I'd start Cristhian Martinez Thursday, let him go 3 or 4 then go to O'Ventbrel.
  • karen lotz
But that isn't going to be necessary.

Lowe had already given up 3 runs, allows hits to the first two batters in the fourth, and Fredi just now is getting someone up in the pen.
