karen lotzThe Yankees did not play to win last night.

gorocks99Just in case you needed math to show just how improbable last night was ...
http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/09/29/bill-buckner-strikes-again/?pagewanted=all
That's gonna sting for a long. Long. Long. Time.
The Red Sox had just a 0.3 percent chance of failing to make the playoffs on Sept. 3.
The Rays had just a 0.3 percent chance of coming back after trailing 7-0 with two innings to play.
The Red Sox had only about a 2 percent chance of losing their game against Baltimore, when the Orioles were down to their last strike.
The Rays had about a 2 percent chance of winning in the bottom of the 9th, with Johnson also down to his last strike.
Multiply those four probabilities together, and you get a combined probability of about one chance in 278 million of all these events coming together in quite this way. -

karen lotzDid you see the pitchers they used, especially in the 8th and later? Best closer in history and an off day the next day and he doesn't pitch. Same with Robertson. Then they left proctor in for how many innings?
-
karen lotzNot to mention their lineup was filed with players wearing numbers in the 60s 70s and 80s.

They were up 6-0 vs the Rays' ace. That has to count for something.karen lotz;915655 wrote:Not to mention their lineup was filed with players wearing numbers in the 60s 70s and 80s. -

"I can't explain it," he said. "It's the best feeling in the world."
Johnson stood in a corner of the clubhouse. He looked something like a fountain. Teammates kept coming behind him and pouring various liquids over his head. To tell the truth, Johnson didn't seem to mind. -

I am just wondering what your connection is to this state. You post on an Ohio board, yet everything you post is Florida related. Not trying to get your panties in a bunch, just curious how you even knew about this site.Speedofsand;915754 wrote:I spent a week there 2 months ago. What's that got to do with baseball? -

They were winning. Doesnt mean they played to win. The gave EVERYONE on the postseason roster pitching wise the night off. That aint playing to win. They took their starter out having only given up 1 hit through like 3 innings. I mean, they did everything to lose on the mount. They played their un-banged-up regulars at the plate, and they came through. Again, that isnt meaning they are playing to win though.like_that;915636 wrote:They were up 6-0 last night. jordo212000like_that, good call on the Rays this year. Remember when you said the system was broken and that they weren't making the playoffs because they lost Garza and Crawford.
The average payroll ranking for the teams that made the playoffs was roughly 14th
The Yanks and Phils ranked 1,2 and they both made it, but after them the next highest paid team that made it was the Tigers (10th). The Rays and D'backs ranked 29th and 25th respectively. -

As soon as I saw you posted, I knew you were going to try to rehash this argument. Rays did surprise me, but it still took an epic collapse (see the worst collapse in history) for them to make it. You are only kidding yourself if you think big market teams are not at an advantage over the smaller market teams. I never said small market teams can't make the playoffs (nice fail), however they have a much smaller time frame to make the playoffs, and then win a title. The Rays have taken advantage of their small time frame, but I don't expect them to be in the AL East argument down the line.jordo212000;915855 wrote:like_that, good call on the Rays this year. Small time frame? For the Rays? They made the World Series in 2008? They made the playoffs last season as well? 3 of the past 4 years they have been in the playoffs.like_that;915859 wrote:As soon as I saw you posted, I knew you were going to try to rehash this argument. Most NFL, NBA, and MLB teams would kill for that kind of sustained success. -

Do you read with your ass or what? Every time we are in disagreement, you tennd to only selectively pick out my posts. Did you not notice the part where I said the Rays have taken advantage of that time frame? Just like the A's did in the early 2000's. SMH, nice fail. Also glad to see you used a typical jordo tactic by mentioning another league, which is completely irrelevant to how the MLB operates. There is no comparison.jordo212000;915866 wrote:Small time frame? For the Rays? They made the World Series in 2008? Wow LMAO. If you weren't up for #1 bandwagon fan competition you deserved to be. GTFO out of here with that garbage. Its shameful that you can be from Ohio, Hell Columbus and not be a Bucks fan. Simply pathetic. Also lol at you insinuating that Ohio is a "low place". You live in redneck POS white trash central Florida. That is the epitome (see dictionary) of a "low place".Speedofsand;915902 wrote:like_that I was born in Columbus and moved out of Ohio when I was 17. Guess I shouldn't be suprised that weak person such as yourself would be infected by that joke of a fan base in FL. Really do have the worst fans in the country, no matter the sport. I would highly bet that you were a "Buckeyes" fan until the championship game against the gators. In fact I can see the wheels in your head spinning as the bucks lost the game. Well shit I can't be a buckeyes troll here in Florida anymore so I'll pretend that I'm a gators fan. That way "my team" still won!" Truly pathetic. I'm also noticing a correlation between bandwagon fans and associating god with "their teams" (UNC basketball, Dallas Cowboys, and Florida Gators).Such arrogance. Please stop admiting to people that you're from Ohio, its embarrassing. -
Speedofsandlol, glad to see my effin with you pushed a button. CoA, in real life I'm still a Buckeye fan but too many trolls on here told me I couldn't be. So you could say I'm more of a Gator fan on here.

You weren't "effin" with me as I havent posted on here until your fail. Nice backpedaling trying to save face though. Typical of a bandwagoner. Also you dont get two, you get one. Can't be a fan of both. Not suprised that went over your head.Speedofsand;915976 wrote:lol, glad to see my effin with you pushed a button.
