DaBrowns41I've got practice notes going up on NFLSoup.
I'm also very active in Twitter during practices. -
karen lotzDon't remember who it is, I think a projected first round DE from Oregon State suffered a meniscus tear in one of his knees during practice. I'm kind of surprised those type of injuries don't happen more often for these games with the intensity the players down there are playing with.

voewoodyI would be willing to bet whichever team the Bengals staff is coaching is going to lose!

And with them not having practiced for a while. -

True, but most of the guys have been training somewhere. A lot of them are either in Arizona or California working with people to get them ready for the combine as well as the draft in general. I don't think many of them have just been sitting around since the season ended, it wouldn't be a good way to head into the biggest "interview" of their life. -

Hopefully Ross can keep it up.Who stood out Monday? <EP>"I thought the backs stood out, though I don't have names to put with them right now," Lewis said. "The little linebacker from Ohio State (Ross Homan) was short in stature, but he stood out to me today." -

That was Stephen Paea the DT from Oregon State. It's unfortunate. -
DaBrowns41Quarterbacks
Colin Kaepernick showed nice accuracy. He did a great job throwing the hitch and come back routes, and hitting the sideline routes. Kaepernick struggled with deep ball accuracy, especially on pass to Titus Young, however, he had nice timing overall. His slow wind up is worrisome, however.
Jake Locker improved throwing the football with his feet set. He needs to work on his timing with the slant routes. He missed Sanzenbacher by a mile on a 3 step drop slant. Locker threw the sideline routes well, although he seems to push the ball too much causing it to sail a bit.
Ricky Stanzi lacks deep ball accuracy, and struggles with 3 step timing. He fumbled courtesy of Cameron Jordan. He missed a few wide open receivers despite being just 8-10 yards out. He isn’t going to make plays on the run, struggling to move and throw.
Wide Receivers
Titus Young ran excellent routes, yet again. He was most explosive in slant and come back routes. Young continues to show excellent RAC ability and only dropped one pass. He makes plays in space, with great agility.
Vincent Brown did a great job of coming back for the ball, and making a play with his body. He’s not afraid to be physical, and fights for the ball. He has shown very soft hands.
Austin Pettis lacks explosiveness, but has that bigger frame to make plays being physical. He does a nice job locating the football.
DeWayne Harris dropped an easy slant pass with the corner playing 5 yards off, but his route running has been very crisp. He cuts in and out of his routes with ease, but doesn’t have the soft hands you’d expect.
Niles Paul needs more speed, but does a good job being physical for the ball. He needs to locate the football better, and not be afraid to get in second gear down the field.
Offensive Line
Anthony Castonzo failed to use his arms to separate from Ballard. He played more RG and RT for the day. He gave up the inside to Jeremy Beal, and didn’t look as athletic as he has in game footage.
James Brewer struggled to keep Cameron Jordan in front of him. Brewer stayed in front of Pierre Allen, and kept separation, while showing quick feet. On a pass play, Brewer let Allen in almost untouched.
Nate Solder gave up a lot of ground against Ryan Kerrigan, but stayed in front. He needs to get better initial punch, and stop coming out of his stance so high. Solder gave up a big inside move to Jordan, but got back quickly, pushing Jordan to the ground.
Steve Schilling struggled with a swim move of Cameron Jordan and couldn’t handle speed off of the ball.
Kevin Kowalski couldn’t handle Jeremy Beal’s quickness inside.
Gabe Carimi controlled Pierre Allen with ease. He uses great upper body strength to his advantage. Carimi has been using his hands very well, and bullying both edge rushers and bull rushers.
John Moffitt had a tough battle with Ian Williams, but he was working at center. He performed better as a guard in full 11 on 11 next to Carimi.
Brandon Fusco continues to show solid strength and gets good leverage playing the center position.
Defensive Line
Christian Ballard used his hands very well, and showed excellent power and speed combo. He’s very light footed, exercising his quickness off of the ball. Ballard used swim and spin moves against Schilling and handled him. On the second try he just out powered him getting off the snap quickly.
Cam Jordan has speed and power that James Brewer and Anthony Castonzo couldn’t handle. Steve Schilling struggled with his inside move and speed. He got an inside move against Solder, but Solder pushed him to the ground. Jordan took up space and used power to still penetrate backfield. Jordan forced a fumble on Ricky Stanzi.
Ryan Kerrigan looked great with pure bull rush against Solder. Got his hands on the outside and pushed Solder back. He gets up field quicker than anybody on the defensive line, showing nice moves as a speed rusher, and a physical bull rusher.
Jeremy Beal handled Castonzo with ease, using quickness to get on the inside. Beal’s quickness broke Kevin Kowalski’s ankles.
Ian Williams shows great power, driving his legs to push lineman back.
Sione Fua penetrated the backfield for a “sack” in full 11 on 11’s. He gets low and is very strong.
Pierre Allen needs to use his arms and power. He’s trying to be more of a finesse edge rusher, but he’s not going to get there. He tends to stutter trying to “juke” out the offensive tackle. He did make a nice inside move on James Brewer to nearly get a “sack”.
Defensive backs
Joe Lefeged struggles in man coverage, but gets good initial push in press. He’s a zone safety in the NFL, and will help in run support.
Kendric Burney was much more physical today, and stuck with his receiver much better. He’s a pure press coverage corner.
Eric Hagg needs to use his hands and play more physical. He gets too high in his back pedal and seems afraid to touch the defender.
Rashad Carmichael tends to interfere when beat, but played more physical today.
Richard Sherman mirrored Sanzenbacher but struggled in the few times with quicker receivers. -
Crimson streakI would love for the browns to draft Titus young I think he will be a stud in the wco
-
NonI like Preston Dial from Alabama.
He's not that big for a tight end but he's still a good blocker.
Maybe in the late rounds to the Steelers. -

I agree. Ross is a good kid...hope he does well...stays healthy.....and gets drafted and is successfulrevgat;652638 wrote:http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2011/01/senior_bowl_notebook_challenge.html

NonThese are some players that I'm looking at for the Steelers
Preston Dial, TE, Alabama
...He's just one of those guys who is a good football player. Doesn't catch many passes, but he's good at moving around and blocking in the run game. More of an H-back type.
Jason Pinkston, T/G Pittsburgh
...I think it hurt that he measured in at 6'3. Most tackles are at least 6'4. Might be a tweener at this point.
Derek Sherrod, T, Mississippi State
...Athletic, long arms, still can add to his frame. Nice tackle prospect.
Gabe Carimi, T, Wisconsin
...I've seen some mock drafts where they have him going to the Steelers. I'm interested to see how he performs.
Phil Taylor, DT, Baylor
...Steelers have to think about a nose tackle pretty soon. Taylor is 6'3 and 337.
Sione Fua, DT, Stanford
...Low center of gravity, squatty build. He has experience in the 3-4. Stanford switched to that last year and they went from 55th in the nation in run defense to 19th with Fua in the middle.
Brooks Reed, DE/LB, Arizona
...Long hair. High motor. I don't know if the Steelers need another edge rusher but he just looks the part.
Rashad Carmichael, CB, Virginia Tech
...Measured in at 5'9 which hurts. He's a well-rounded cornerback. Six interceptions last year despite missing some games. Good tackler. Leader.
early favorites for draft
Mike Pouncey, G, Florida 6'4 310...The ideal selection to play alongside his brother.
Marcus Cannon, T/G, TCU 6'5 350...Big and versatile.
Brandon Harris, CB, Miami 5'11 195...Very competitive and active. He'll make plays.
Davon House, CB, New Mexico State 6'0 184...possible second rounder
Ras-I Dowling, CB, Virginia 6'2 210...big frame for a corner, a lot depends on how fast he runs in the 40 -
DaBrowns41I'll be doing a radio show at 7PM EST discussing the Senior Bowl and NFL Draft.

SpeedofsandI have a couple friends who live in Daphne, Ala. They said scouts are liking Christian Ponder. They also say Todd McShay is a douche bag. And a surprising number say Auburn's stars are not high on the board. Newton is raw. Fairley has plenty of critics for his diet and work habits, and they say his strength will be exposed vs NFL olines.

LJSanzo lead the north in receptions, yards and total tds (1 lol)
-
september63Jake Locker's stock continues to drop. He looked awful in the Sr Bowl!!
-
shook_17can't believe kiper and mcshay considered him a top ten pick last year. and potentially first overall pick over bradford last year. crazy how one year changes everything.
christian ponder had a good game. 2 td passes named MVP. him and that reciever from miami hooked up all night.
