Cutler getting abused by Bears fans and fellow NFL players
-
september63Im giving Cutler the benefit of the doubt here. It was reported the medical staff and trainers told him he wont be playing any more in that game. There is more to this story than just Cutler taking himself out of the game. If Urlacher doesnt question his toughness, how can I?
-
j_crazyjust heard this on cowherd's show:
at some point during the second quarter he came back onto the field and one hopped like a 3 yard pass.
maybe he was really hurt, seems like he was trying to go and realized he was not going to help them win, so he stepped aside to give them a chance to win. -
wkfanI think the bigger issue was Cutler's lack of 'coaching up' either Collins or Hanie on the sidelilne.
Dude just sat there looking completely disinterested. -

this - even if you're hurt, that's fine...why aren't you trying to help the 3rd string dude study or read D's? He just sat there like someone stole his toy. -
dazedconfusedhe really looked disinterested out there. grab some crutches, throw a headset on and stay emotionally invested in the game. just look at pouncey for the steelers. he looked miserable not being able to be out there and contribute

september63I agree with his sideline demeanor but Im just saying if Urlacher and his boys arent questioning his integrity why should all of us arm chair QB's?

Uhh because hes on their own team? You don't call out your own QB of that...if Urlacher played for a different team next year, I bet you he says something about everyone being silently pissed at Cutler for that. -
se-alumBeing reported that Cutler has a sprained knee. I don't blame him for coming out, but as others have mentioned, he didn't seem like much of a team player when he was out.

don't have a link, but espn 97.5 in houston reported that it was a level 2 (not sure what the heck that means) MCL tear. -

It means its a sprain, basically. Will not require surgery (though 1, 2, and 3 levels usually dont, regardless). It will take him 3-4 weeks to recover. -
SportsAndLadyA fucking sprain? Lol P U S S Y

I agree, though my friends in Chi (who on the record, hate Cutler) have said he wanted to go back in, the Bears trainers and doctors wouldnt let him.
To that I say, Lovie wanted a reason to bench his ass. He was playing so bad lol. That or the doctors didnt know the difference between a grade 2 and 3, without tests. But at the same time...even a grade 3 is only 3 months about to recover. He was in no danger of missing any time of next season...if he could gut it out he shoudlve. So from that perspective I think Lovie just benched him. -

This could, and I wouldn't doubt it to be true. The bad thing for Cutler is that people and GM's won't remember that Lovie benched him, but rather he was a pussy and they don't want him because of it. That would really kinda suck, but hey... -

To that I say, you bitched your way out of Denver, so you deserve it. There is a reason the CBS/FOX/NBC crews all hate him. I think ESPN is the only crew I havent heard bad shit talked about Cutler.
My favorite story comes from the CBS director. He said they went in to get the information in the Friday sit down with the "star" players. Well Dick Enberg was on the crew for the given week and stood up to greet Cutler. Cutler walked in with his headphones on and hoodie up and didnt shake Enbergs hand and just sat down. He gave 1 word answers and was in such a rush to get out of the meeting. Well....it kind of backfired, Enberg ripped him (in subtle ways) during the broadcast on Sunday.
Ive heard this from directors of NBC and FOX as well. I havent heard it from ESPN...but then again, they dont work with the guys as often and I have only talked with a few people who have worked with Cutler from ESPN. It doesnt pay to be an ass-hole, and he is. My roommate in college went to school with the guy in Santa Claus, Indiana; Heritage Hills HS. Said he is the biggest cock on the planet... -
ytownfootballAfter I said..."That would really kinda suck, but hey... " I had a little rant about being an asshole and what goes around comes around, I decided to leave it out because, well, I really don't follow Cutler enough to make that statement. You seem to have enough backing (no fucking links though ) to make the claim. I've seen him do a couple interviews and thought he was an asshole...but you confirmed it.

wildcats20Apparently MJD's comments were just jokes.
AKA let the backpedaling begin. -

Lol, dont put my personal conversations onto the internet often
I guess you just gotta take my word for it. I would question the individual broadcast directors, but Ive heard it from 5 different ones...where there is smoke.
My roommate, well I dont question his stories. -

Haha, no links needed, just giving you "the business"...burden of proof seems to be a hot topic around here these days. Lol -

I am probably in the minority but I could really care less how people talk to the media. IMO the guy is a quarterback and thats his job, If I was him I would be focused on what I had to do that Sunday, not what the fuck Dick Enberg had to say. Personally, I think the media would be very distracting and should only be something that you agree to do and not required. If I feel like giving an interview or press conference then good, but don't label me an "asshole" if I choose not to. Again thats just IMO and I know I will probably be in the minority about it. I feel that doing all sorts of media things would be something that I wouldn't enjoy. -

Problem is though that speaking to the media and selling your "brand" and the NFL is usually part of the deal. They are paid to do so. Is it really hard to just be civil? I don't care how anyone speaks to the media, but they do reflect, and when they don't do it well there are ramifications.stroups;651836 wrote:I am probably in the minority but I could really care less how people talk to the media. 1. Thats fine, but if you are required, as QBs are...wouldnt you just suck it up and not be a dick. I mean, when you go places, no matter how much you dont want to be there, do you ignore someones handshake?
2. The media is what makes these guys. Would the sport "survive" without TV/Media...sure. But they wouldnt be making the money they are. The media, for all its blamed for, MAKES these stars famous.
3. He is an ass-hole in general, so how he talks to the media is a reflection of that not a reflection of him not liking the media (if that made sense).
4. As someone in the media, it is frustrating when people dont give interviews or something to talk about during the broadcast, but its respected when you politely decline. Ive only run across a few athletes/coaches/ADs/whatever who have declined, but they do so politely and it isnt an issue. Now, if someone was to say "fuck off" (not verbatim, but in body language, tone, etc). Id be angry. Im just trying to do my job, and whether that person likes it or not, the public (who's attention he loves) gets the information from me. Im not an asshole, I didnt come to your home in your free time asking for an interview. I simply came to you, so I can better your own image during a broadcast while you are drinking water etc. -
End of LineThey doctors should have gave Cutler a shot of cortisone, froze his knee, and put a brace on it.

I would ask what orthopedic board certified you, but they usually won't certify someone who commits an atrocity against the English language that way that you just did. -
End of LineI typed a bit to quickly I must say, my fault.

It's beside the point anyway. A trainer or several trainers on the sidelines can only do a rudimentary evaluation of exactly what's wrong with a player at a given time, which is obviously not the most accurate diagnosis that can be made.
In Cutler's case, he probably would have told the trainer, "My knee hurts and I can't plant." They stabilize the upper leg manually, then use the lower leg to test whether there's any laxity in the joint. Undoubtedly there was a fair amount, which would seem to indicate a ligament tear. The problem is that it's impossible at that point to know whether it's MCL by itself or whether one of the cruciate ligaments (ACL or PCL) is damaged as well.
And that lack of knowing would have a huge impact on what to do. Cortisone is designed to reduce swelling and inflammation, but it's not an immediate fix. Freezing it would have no impact because it's not a muscle injury or something that's otherwise just painful. And bracing it, although it can be done with an MCL, needs to be done on a knee that isn't swelling and where only the MCL has sustained damage. The brace would prevent the knee from having lateral laxity, but wouldn't do anything for the type of torque that is commonly applied in athletic movements. Without knowing if there's ACL or PCL damage, the only other option would be something that's so incredibly stiff that he'd be about as mobile as Bernie Kosar's mother, and even that's not a sure bet.
