Reds Announcer news

  • sportswizuhrd
The mayor in(for 15 games) and Paul Keels out(good news!). Looks like the radio guy Jim Keltch will get more of a TV role. I didnt listen to a lot of radio games so I dont really remember anything from him.

I dont like Kelch all that much, so it is good that he will be going to TV. I assume he will be Thom's TV replacement when he has to go on his trips for Fox.

Even better news that Keels is out the door.

I know I am in the minority but I liked Paul Keels.

I hope Casey makes the best of his 15 games and hopefully by next year they send Chris Welsh packing.

Paul Keels has a great voice for announcing, but he just did not seem like he knew the game of baseball well enough to be an announcer for a MLB team. I know, I know...many will say announcers are dumb...well...yeah....some do say some pretty stupid stuff (probably because of the need to feel like they should be constantly talking) but he genuinely did not seem like he fully understood the nuances of the game of baseball.
Now...he did know some history of the reds it seemed as he would bring stuff up from the past (it may have been a true memory or he looked it up in prep for the telecast and threw it it...but i believe the former over the latter of that comment).

GOod voice.....just not a good baseball guy.

Took awhile to get used to Kelch...but he grew on me.

I dont know...the revolving door.....diff guys all the time it seems....>I still love, and dearly miss, the team of Marty and Joe. There is something to be said about routine...and they had it down perfectly.

ho hum..........i rarely shed a tear when someone dies unless I directly knew the person, but I did so the morning I heard about the ole lefthander.

Paul Keels did make plenty of mistakes, no arguments there. I liked his voice and as you know by seeing my avatar... I'm a Buckeye fan. By nature, I have to take up for Keels.

Never been a fan of Welsh though. He rarely ever says anything pointed about anybody, and when he does, it seems like there is an agenda. (It is always the same 5-6 guys)

Welsch is OK, but I do dislike how he is toes the company line and doesnt tell it like it is many times.

I noticed his voice when he was the announcer for the Bearcats and hearing him on WLW. Def a voice for the media but I was just dumfounded by some of the mistakes, and some of the questions he would throw out there for the other announcer in the booth.

but anyways.............Looking forward to the season to start!

I disagree BIG TIME here. Welsh will tell it like it is often. His old partner George Grande really made this obvious. Welsh will call out a Red for not hustling or question a management or coaching decision quite often.

Which is why I like him in the booth. Welsh isn't going anywhere.

I don't understand how anyone could hate on Chrish Welsh? He's been with us since 93. Him and George were the Marty and Joe of the new generation. If you think Welsh was the problem, you are wrong. Welsh probably sounded bad to the haters because Keels was such a terrible baseball announcer and put Welsh in bad spots. Casey joining the team will be a huge addition. I was pulling for Eddie Taubensee though.

I agree. I remember a game from two years ago where, after coming back from roid suspension, Manny beat the Reds with a walk-off homer. Grande was like, "WOOOWWWW!!!! What a play!!!!" and Welsh was completely flipping out on how Masset threw him a fastball down the middle on the first pitch. The two friends I watched that game with and I were in agreement that Welch gained enough awesome points from that night to almost totally make up for him being in Bronson's fake shitburger commercials.

Kelch is headed to TV??? I hate how he says Johnny "Kway- TOE", with an emphasis on the TOE.
