Did the Jets back into the Playoffs?
-
Skyhook79They have lost 3 of their last 4 and even after losing today clinch a Playoff spot.
Did they earn their spot or back in? -
like_thatThey earned their spot by getting the 10 wins. They had the luxury of being able to lose games down the stretch. Losing games down the stretch might not be a good thing heading in the playoffs though, as the bengals learned last year. The only playoff team that won't earn its spot will be coming out of the NFC West.

Why wouldn't a team who wins their Division deserve it more than a team who doesn't? -

They may deserve to be in playoffs over the 3 other teams in the division, but not more deserving than the teams that are actually over 500. -

Then why have Divisions?like_that;614279 wrote:They may deserve to be in playoffs over the 3 other teams in the division, but not more deserving than the teams that are actually over 500. -
Commander of AwesomeIn the NFL you can't play every team because the game takes such a toll on the body. Thats why divisions exist. That and to drive home "rivalries".

queencitybuckeyeOne of the things that is better about pro football than college is that how doesn't matter, it's how many.
-
Scarlet_FeverThey deserved it. If the Jets had lost their first 3 of 4 and then went on to win a bunch in a row you wouldn't say they backed in. Wins in the beginning of the season are just as important as wins at the end of the season. They all count the same.
-
purple_reinThey are 10-5. Definitely deserving. Their only bad loss this year was the Dolphins game. They just won at Pittsburgh 2 weeks ago.

Steelers clinched after losing to the Jets.
The Jets earned it. They'll likely end the season with 11 wins. -
justincredibleThe Jets got a ton of shit last year with how they made it into the playoffs and they ended up having a nice little run to the AFCCG.
-
SykotykTechnically, they 'backed in', but they did earn it. It doesn't bode well for their playoff run to come in on a down note, however.

I agree with the first part, yes technically they backed in. But they earned it over the course of the season. And they played better in Chicago than I anticipated. The Bears are a good team that had a lot to play for with a first round bye still in the mix and that was their final home game. The Bears were hopped up and the Jets played with them and had chances to win. They have Buffalo at home next week so should end the year on a high note. -

HereticI don't really look at it as "backing in" unless you clinch the playoff berth while losing your last game because some other team failed to take it from you. Jets did enough over the course of the season to clinch a playoff berth with a game still to play, even if they've not been so good over the last month. They might be slumping or "coming back to earth", but not backing in. No one else simply was good enough to challenge for the final wild card spot.

september63I dislike the NYJ. They have won 10 games, they didnt back in. If Seattle wins this Sunday they win the division at 7-9. That is backing in to the playoffs.
-
Ironman92Mainly semantics.....but Seattle has to win to get in.
TO me it's a team who loses the final 3 games and gets in at 9-7 or 10-6
Regardless it's earned. -
september63I understand. Just saying if the NYJ were to play Seattle, the Jets would be favored by atleast 13. Its still a matter of which team is more deserving.
-
77LegendOn a grand scheme of things, they played well enough to get into the play-offs. Their biggest concern now is the recent slide they are dealing with which does not bid well going into the play-offs.

What does a point spread have to do with anything? Besides it doesn't mean the Jets would win.
You win your Division you are more deserving. -

Not if you are 500 or below, that is for sure. -
BlanketYes they did.
Anytime you lose and still get in with help is backing in. -

Being lucky enough to play in a terrible division isn't grounds for a reward.Skyhook79;614270 wrote:Why wouldn't a team who wins their Division deserve it more than a team who doesn't? -
j_crazythe Jets are in, my team is not. can't say anything about how they got there. Now if we're talking about the Rams/Seahawks, I'm on board with that bitchfest.

georgemc80Beating Pittsburgh impressed me somewhat. I was sure they would lose out...mostly because nobody was going to lay down for them this year...like they did last year.
