What in the world is going on with Evan Turner in Philly? I suppose I could have posted this under the random NBA thread, but seeing as how he is a former Buckeye, I thought it would get more attention this way. I am somewhat of a Sixers fan, and am shocked by how poorly he has played. I mean, you can't miss on the number 2 pick like this, and Philly is not exactly stock-piled with talent. Has he mailed it in? I was somewhat skeptical of the pick, but the drop off after Wall was significant. Here's hoping he can turn it around.....quickly.

There has been a pretty decent amount of discussion on Turner in the other thread with a lot of differing opinions. Some say he is a bust, others say its way too early to judge his career. I'd lean to the latter of the two and am kind of surprised he hasn't had a little more success than he has. I didn't think he would step in and be a star right away, but I thought he would be a solid contributor on a bad team.

I always give them a couple years before I call them a bust. With that being said....i never thought his style fit the nba game. Time will tell..

I'm not that big of an NBA fan (well not really at all) but I never thought Turner was a good fit for that league, either.

Turner was the consummate college player, in my opinion. Not sure the intangibles for the NBA are there. But it is too early to say he's a bust.

Speaking bad of Evan Turner on this website is unheard of, just wait youll have like 5 people come in here and tell you that. Btw I agree with you, he doesnt have an NBA game and will continue to struggle IMO

Give him time. The NBA is a different game. I think he has the ability to be a solid NBA player. If he has the work ethic , he will be OK.

Wrong as usual. It's ok to talk about how poorly he has played so far, its people like you who have already labeled him a bust that gets under people's skin.

Wrong about what, you guys comign in and defending him, or about his game. If its the latter....im quite right. His game doesnt translate

And if by people you mean you, and a few buckeye diehards ill live with it. Its not like im the only one thinking hes been rather busty, in fact id wager thats the majority of peoples view on him

A little early to label him a bust, but thus far he has been somewhat of a train wreck

That said, his supporting cast is garbage and I have never been a fan of Doug Collins. There is a reason he always returns to commentating a couple years after he leaves for the bench

He might turn out okay with a year of realizing he needs to change some things. Good thing his contract is longer than this year though or else they would drop his ass in a hurry.

He will be fine. He'll NEVER live up to the #2 pick, but that draft was WEAK to begin with.

However, he will adapt his game. He's had some very good games this season, just hasn't been able to get consistent.

Philly is coming around as a team, and there is talent on that roster, despite what some people say.

I'm not a big fan of Doug Collins as a coach either. With the type of roster that Philly has, they need to be running a lot more than they currently are.

Back to ET though, I think his ceiling is a 16-18PPG scorer while chipping in about 5 assists and 5 boards a game.

He was selected to the wrong team. Philly are full of players similar to him. Inguodala is darn near his equal. Both slashers and play similar positions. I don't understand why Philly drafted him. Evan would have fit much better in New Jersey as a #3 pick in Avery Johnson's up tempo offense. The team a player is drafted to is huge for their development. But the NBA is a business so Evan has to get over it and produce someway. If he can't be the scorer he wants to be then he needs to show his presence playing defense, distributing the ball, or rebounding. DO SOMETHING. A players second year is usually when it's telling how good a player will actually be. So I will give him until the end of next season.

He can't shoot well enough for his position. Period. Through those 27 games his 3-point percentage is .167. There's only six guards/small forwards in the entire league that have played at least 15 games and have a worse percentage. It's clear that he needs to handle the ball in order to succeed, but there's not a single team in the NBA that would allow him to play the point. Without dominating the ball he can be an above-average role player -- and he will do so throughout his career -- but can never live up to the expectations that come with being a 2nd overall pick.

I don't think anyone ever expected him to be a great long range shooter. His game is more geared toward the mid-range jumper and going to the hoop.

My thoughts on ET are evident in the other thread.

However, I think it's all but clear that he will NEVER live up to the #2 pick. As for those who said it was a weak draft, come back to me in 3-5 years when there are a dozen players or more who were taken behind Turner who are far better at that time. Remember also, Turner is 23. Most players in the NBA Draft anymore are 21 or younger. So yes, not only do I think his game isn't suited for the NBA, he really doesn't have a ton of upside to add to it. To me, that almost guarantees he will never live up to being a #2 overall pick.

I'm not sure how anyone can justify Philadelphia taking Turner over DeMarcus Cousins or Derrick Favors.

Shooting is a skill hat ca be learned. If he puts in the work, his outside shot will become serviceable.

I don't understand why any team would pass on quality bigs in favor of a backcourt player. Turner is not going to be a homerun, but it is much too early to call him a bust.
