Mike Vick says...

He cant possibly be a dog guy or lover or whatever. You dont murder dogs if you are, so what would he want the responsibility of a dog for? Makes little to no sense.

I would guess that it might be an image thing. Just for the record, he stated his daughter missed having a dog too.

Yeah, I would assume that he thinks by having a dog and treating it well; it will help him shed the view people have of him

He said he wants it as part of his rehab to continue to prove to people that the dog fighting/killing is a part of his past. He also said his daughter has asked several times and he has to explain to her why they can't have one right now.

Pretty sure Hb's post was a sarcastic one.

Give me a break. Get a foster child and make a difference. The only dog that should get close to him, is one that is chasing him.

If he wants a dog...he should be able to own a dog.......what other way can he show closure to what he did and how he has redone his life?

    I'm not buying it.

To do the horrible, cruel things he did, without blinking an eye, apparently, you have to be some kind of sociopath. Basically, without a soul and a conscience.

I hope they don't let him near ANY animals in his lifetime. I don't think people who do this stuff really change. Ever.

To do the things he did, you could also just be joe schmoe who likes to kill animals for sport. Aka hunting

BS. Hunters don't torture the animals before killing them -- and most hunters use what they kill for food. Vick did horrible and cruel things to those dogs; the kind of stuff psychopaths and budding serial killers do.
  • Hb31187
Most hunters eat what they kill? LOL dont kid yourself, many hunters just go hunting for the trophy on the mantle or in their den haha.

And shooting an animal, running following the blood trail and then slicing the neck or finishing it off when you get to it is so much more humane? Gimme a break, its killing all the same. Only difference is teh general public dont have an obsession with deer, hogs, ect like they do with dogs.
  • Mulva
Maybe they should let child molesters teach 2nd grade once they get out of prison, as long as they promise they won't do it again and that 'no one ever told them it was the wrong thing to do'.

I didn't want to miss out on the 'Let's make horrible comparisons' game.

Or the kinds of things that hunters who don't shoot a kill shot do to finish off the animal.

Get a clue dude. You've obviously never hunted if you think that only psychotic people do what Vick did. He saw dogs as the pawns in a game, the game of dog fighting, much like hunters see animals as the pawns in the game as well. Dog fighting is a very real thing in the South and I'd have to imagine that you can't possibly see how people can see pitbulls as that, but Vick is not an isolated individual.

Maybe he should be banned from owning certain breeds of dogs like ones that are mainly used for fighting or dogs that are seen as agressive. Pit Bulls, Rotts, Doberman etc......He should only be allowed to own tea cup or toy dogs.

I'm a huge dog lover, but for the most part I think this whole thing has been blown out of proportion. Sure what he did was wrong, but he served more time than anyone would have thought and he seems to have been humbled by his time away.

With that said, if the judge said he's not allowed to own a dog, it shouldn't even be a question. What he did was wrong and if him not being allowed to ever own a dog is part of his punishment, then that's it.

If he can't own a dog, then Smithfield Farms shouldn't be allowed to own pigs: http://www.wvec.com/news/local/HSUS-111917554.html

I was watching the Dan Patrick show yesterday and I am almost positive they said that he could own a dog after his probation was up. DP was saying that he thought it would be good for Vick to learn, by watching his children, what it is to have a pet, love it etc.

exactly. this argument is crazy. he did the crime, then the time, if the law allows him to own a dog i'm all for it. according to the justice system and his parole hearings he's been rehabilitated and is ready to rejoin society.

and hb, i hope you're vegetarian, because otherwise your arguments are asinine.
  • Hb31187
No I eat meat. And all my argument is , cruelty to one animal is just as bad as cruelty to another. People just put dogs on a pedestal and act like theyre more important than others

From what I understand Vick possibly wanting a dog in the future had nothing to do with HIM wanting to own a dog, it had to do with his children wanting a dog. I mean what kid wouldn't like to have a pet? I don't think they should be punished because of their father's crime.
  • j_crazy
i don't disagree that dogs are held in much too high of a regard.
  • Laley23
fwiw, Vick went to jail more for tax evasion than anything. Despite what media says, Im convinced of that fact.

Totally agree. Man served his time. People are just upset because he's back in the lime light. If his skill set was anything but football, which will make him very rich again, we'd never care about him. He put his time in and is now working to get his life back on track, if he wants to get a little scooby doo for his kids i think that's fine. People hold animal abuse higher than they do human on human abuse so i can see why this is all getting blown out of proportion
