Major League Baseball isn't the pro sport going broke though. That would be the NBA. You know, the league with the salary cap that has less parity than baseball. Go look at the Pirates financial statements, the league is doing just fine.

Don't confuse the Indians situation with teams around the league. Ownership and management is inept. Nobody said they had to get rid of Cliff Lee a year before his contract was up. And nobody told them that if they were going to trade him, they had to pick 4 prospects who will probably never do anything at the major league level. They also didn't have to trade Brandon Phillips to the Reds for a guy who is now working at Citgo. The fact is, their owner is extremely wealthy, if you truly believe that they "can't afford" to give their best players 12-15 million a year then I have some beach property in Nebraska for you. Certain small market teams would rather act like they are trying to win, but they only want to pad their wallets.

I agree that the NBA does a better job marketing their stars, baseball has been horrible at that. I'm not sure what your point is with this though. We're talking about parity. Over and over again I have brought up that the MLB does no worse at "parity" than any other sport. In fact it does better than the NBA. Just because your favorite team (Indians) routinely gets their pants taken down in trades and does nothing to try and compete... doesn't mean that the system is broken. Look around the league. The Mariners have broken the bank for the past couple of years and they suck.

No, I already explained why using the NBA is a cop out argument, maybe you can try reading again. We were never arguing which league is better. As for Brandon Phillips, maybe the tribe traded him because Belliard was an all star at that time, and Phillips couldn't crack the lineup????? Know your facts before you just type gibberish. And yes I truly don't believe he can't afford to give all the best players their money. There is a reason why he only gave sizemore and hafner big deals. Dolan doesn't have a blank check like the Red Sox, Yankees, and Angels do. Honestly he shouldn't be owning a team.

The fact of the matter is the MLB playoffs are a crap shoot, and anything can happen there as long as you get in. The Yankees and Sox are giving themselves the best chance to win it all by appearing in the playoffs year in and year out (yes i know they both have taken a year off here and there, but it is very rare). If the system is fair, then the Marlins wouldn't have had to disband their team twice after winning the World Series in 97' and 03'.

I have already explained why your argument is a fail several times. MLB's system is fine.

    1. Baseball has had more "parity" than the NBA recently. Nobody says a peep about the NBA though.

    2. Despite having a "broken" system, teams like the Pirates are rolling in the cash while at the same time, the NBA is going broke.

    3. You are always going to have terrible franchises who find ways to screw it up. Instituting a aslary cap won't suddenly give inept management a clue. (see Clippers and my Bengals)

lol, you didn't prove shit. You keep talking about the parity between the MLB and NBA, when the NBA has nothing to with the argument at all. Like I have already said before, there is a reason why not many people watch baseball anymore.
