Sounds terrible for the league.
Cavs vs Spurs was a boring match-up. Everybody knew what was going to happen and there weren't any exciting match-ups.
Recently though (the past two seasons), the Cavs had some of the biggest rating draws.
Of course the Heat are going to have good ratings right now.. It's new.. People are curios, the Heat have been shaky, etc..
In a few months, nobody will really give a fuck. Especially with ESON shoving them down the masses throats.
If you think 2 or 3 good teams that bring in ratings is good for a league overall, you're pretty foolish. I mean, I guess that's why the NBA lost about 400 million last year and may go into a lockout this upcoming season, right? -

Yeah, it has been proven to people many a time that the NBA thrives when there are superteams loaded with superstars. That is what the casual fan wants to see, I know I do. I find it laughable that people think that casual fans want to see a watered down product, we don't.
Can you remember the last time anybody cared about game 16 of the regular season? haha. Usually the NBA has a hard time getting storylines during this time of the year. Not now.
Go ask David Stern if this is "bad" for the league. Ticket sales have been booming this year. -

There is a lot more parity in college football than you think. Just because there is 128 teams (more?), doesn't mean there isn't parity. A playoff would prove that too. -

Couple things...you are talking about the difference between 2-3 contenders and 4-5 contenders in any given season. How many legit contenders were there last year? If you add the Heat, how many are there this year? If some team suddenly pulled Carmelo Anthony and a couple other big time players, how many would there be? Like I said, there was a lot of early excitement coming into the NBA this year, however, that excitement is quickly dying. You can continue to be delusional, but the NBA improving at the beginning of the season isn't that big of a deal, because the fact is, 26 teams will no longer care come January, which is when the NBA always falters.
As for College football, there is A LOT of parity in that game.. You can't be that naive, can you? Every year there are quite a few title contenders and frequently, teams ranked outside of the preseason top 8 or 10 end up making it to the BCSNC. -

The current situation isn't really all that different than it has been the past few years. There are always 4-5 teams who have a realistic shot of winning the title. Everybody else is a pretender.
Last year:
Lakers
Cavs
Magic
Celtics
Nobody outside of that group had a chance of winning the title last year. Everybody knew who the best teams were
This year we essentially replace the Cavs with the Heat and perhaps add the Thunder to the fray. That's the NBA. That's what it is famous for. Heck the Celtics and Lakers have played in an absurd amount of Finals. And it always does well ratings wise
Casual fan could care less if the Clippers win 13 or 33 games. We want to see good basketball and exicting matchups. -

In the NBA, 23 teams are not averaging sell outs. Somehow, ESPN has Miami averaging sell outs in every game, when we see with our own eyes, that's NOT the case.
16 teams average less than 90% capacity.
14 of those teams average less than 85%
8 of those average less then 80% -

I really don't know what else to say. Can a person really be this dense. We realize that not everybody is selling out. haha. That's not the point. The league as a whole is doing much better (see above stats from the Sporting News).
So yes, it is possible that stadiums are only being filled to 90% capacity, but it also possible that being filled to 90% capacity is an improvement from last year.
The NBA is in the shape it is in because they have been handing outlandish contracts to terrible players for years. (Etan Thomas, Darko, Eddy Curry, Desagana Diop, Dampier all come to mind) -
