Joey Votto named NL MVP
-
Mooney44CardsLots of speculation around Joey Votto obviously.
Pujols won the other two awards at 1B but those awards were voted on by the players and managers (who, lets be honest, don't actually see as much baseball beyond their own games) whereas the MVP award is voted on by the baseball writers (who, lets be honest can be a lot more biased). So it will be interested to see if Votto can unseat Pujols who is the reigning 2x MVP, or if perhaps one of the Rockies stars (Tulo, CarGo) will be rewarded for their late season push. -
wildcats20It will be criminal if he doesn't win.
-
Mooney44CardsVOTTO WINS IT!!!!
-
davenice!
-
Laley23Easy choice, but because of the media hype of Pujols/Votto it was in the air. Glad to see they made the right call.
-
SportsAndLadyHe won in a landslide, received every first place vote except one.

wildcats20Quote of the day:
"It was pretty freaking awesome to have beaten Albert Pujols for the MVP" - Joey Votto -
pinstriperCongats to Votto, from a Cards fan. I think Pujols won the other 2 awards because he's simply viewed by everyone in the league as the best player, so they just check his box...whereas Votta had the better season. He deserved the MVP.

Ironman92Good Stuff....Pujols has now been top 2 7 times and top 3 8 times....silly
Votto....40 and 120 next year -

Pujols is one of the best baseball players I have ever seen.
And if Joey goes 40/120 next year, it will be his again. -
Ironman92you never know about that.....what Cargo did was scary....he might go 45 135 with a higher average
-
karen lotzDan Uggla and Brian McCann will go into 2011 as the MVP favorites. The only problem will be the splitting of votes that will inevitably occur.
-
Ironman92Dan Uggla will go .258 28 HR 81 RBI 177 K....only Kirk Gibson could win an MVP with those numbers
-
karen lotz81 RBI? I see him making a run at Hack Wilson.
-
Ironman92Hack Wilson 1931.....yes
-
karen lotzHe should have that by June 1st.
-
justincrediblelol @ Dan Uggla.
-
karen lotzWhat's to lol @?
-
justincredibleHe's Dan Uggla and you think he's a favorite for MVP going into 2011. I know you don't really think that but the thought is funny.
-
karen lotzMissing piece to Atlanta's puzzle. Bet the house on the Braves as soon as odds come out.

If they played all 162 games at Coors Field, maybe.
I know we've pretty much all seen his Home/Away splits by now, but lets take another look.
Stats are listed as (home/away) respectively.
AVG: .336 (.380/.289)
HR: 34 (26/8)
SO: 135 (54/81)
OBP: .376 (.425/.322)
SLG: .598 (.737/.453)
TB: 351 (221/130) -
Ironman92CarGo has what 8-10 years of big league experiece right? No way will he improve at his age.
-
Ironman92no, check that, he was only 24 this past season with little big league experience AND missed 17 games....maybe, just maybe he can improve
The guy was the NL batting champ in pretty much his first full season....I'll stick with my thoughts of him having a shot to go 45 and 135 -
Mooney44CardsNot saying he can't get better, but this isn't him struggling vs LHP or something that he can learn how to hit lefties better.....how do you learn to NOT be average at other ballparks? Maybe it is something that is easily improved on, I don't really know. But it seems to me that he is a product of a hitter's ballpark because everywhere else, he's pretty pedestrian.
-
Ironman92Babe Ruth + pedestrian = 3rd place MVP at age 24
Was it the other parks or being away from home? Many parks are hitters ballparks....maybe he just didn't adjust well to being on the road...maybe he partied too hard after games.....numerous factors are possible here. Obviously he'll always be better at Coors.....much like most players at home.....but he may just learn to hit in other parks.
or hell he may get figured out by most pitchers and struggle mightily...none of us know I was just going on what he did and the fact he missed 17 games......45 and 135 would not be a huge improvement...more marginal and do-able IMO.
