This is the best thing for this Browns' team

  • SportsAndLady
Obviously going 16-0 is the best thing for the team...but realistically, we weren't gonna be very good and we all knew that.

But this team is competing and you can tell they have something special brewing in a year or two. They have some key positions locked up for long term, imo. You have Hillis at RB, Colt at QB, and a very strong defense. Just add some weapons for Colt and a few depth players.

They're losing, yes, but I'd rather be competitive in every game and go 4-12 or 5-11 and get a top 10 draft pick (AJ Green, Julio Jones, or the Ok State WR if he's even eligible for the draft this year) than go 9-7, 8-8 miss the playoffs and get the 20th pick in the draft.

They're at least fun to watch, competitive, and will get a lot of good draft picks this year to upgrade an already decent team.

Don't be angry Browns fans...our time is coming soon you can just feel it!

Hillis is great, but I cannot count on him for the long term. RBs barely last as it is, and his style will shorten that career exponentially. Id expect another good year next year, and they I think we see a steep decline.

Hopefully Hardesty can come back next year and split some carries with Hillis so he doesn't have to run it 25 times a game

The best thing for the Browns would be Super Champions, and nothing less than that.

I think if Hardesty is able to stay healthy, then the RB position is set for the future. The problem is, they cant count on that at all.

Hillis is in a better position than most number one backs because he has very low mileage. In 2008 he had 68 carries and just 13 last year and he didn't have over 65 carries in any of his four seasons at Arkansas. He's only 24 so barring injury I expect him to be productive for the next 6-8 seasons hopefully.

Despite how productive Hillis is, I really don't see him as a #1 option and feel like he will be an excellent #2, 8-10 carry a game guy. I'm still not sold on Hardesty, and depending on who comes out, and how the draft goes (like how unpredictable it was last year) I would love to see them pick up a RB in the 2nd/3rd round or in free agency.

^You're fucking out of your mind if you don't think Hillis is a #1. He's been one of the best running backs in the entire NFL this season!

    Idiot Post of the Week.

How is it an idiot post? I just don't think his running style will make him a long term option. I'd rather bring in another guy to split carries with him so he could have a longer more productive career.

Read your post, you said he's not a viable option yet is top 5 in the entire NFL in yards. All that on a team completely devoid of an offensive threat, I'd say thats a FAIL.

Let me reword it then. I didn't mean to say he isn't the answer at RB, but in today's league, its best to have 2 RB. And if the Browns continue to rely on him as the only running option, then his NFL career is going to be cut short. Another competent RB will help Hillis greatly in the long term, I just don't think it'll be Hardesty. I don't care if he hasn't seen a down yet in an NFL game.

Hell, maybe getting a #1 WR will be just enough to cut his carries down.

^^^Interesting point....I wonder what the Browns balance is...maybe 65/35 in favor of the run? A more balanced attack would probably cut down on some of the beating he is taking.
  • Fabio
Exactly. If your going to favor the run so much then you need more than one main man behind the QB. Priest Holmes was awesome in Kansas City, as was Larry Johnson. But they didn't have a solid complement (though larry was Priest's, but it was too little too late).

I agree with you in getting a compliment to him, but I don't think you rule out Hardesty until you have seen him a few years. Regardless of those things, we need to draft offense in this years draft. I'm talking first 2-3 rounds taking receivers and running backs. We need to start getting that side of the ball built up and when that happens I think the other things fall into place.

This thread is a typical Browns approach to the rest of the season. Funny stuff. Wining breeds success, not giving up so soon.

can we have a thread where steelers fags don't come in talking shit?

As long as all the guys who have been playing well this season continue to do so and they make some good moves in the offseason the Browns will no longer be the opponent that other teams look forward to.

Hillis is and will be our #1 for the long term future. He's only 24 and this is the first year he's really seen extended duties. He's built like a tank too, so I'm sure his body is up to the task.

The Browns will get a #2 to split carries with him and they'll also improve the passing game to take pressure off the running game.

AJ Green, Julion Jones, or Blackmon would all be great picks, but if I could have my pick, I'd take AJ Green.

I think MoMass could be a very good #2 as well. I wouldn't mind seeing the Browns try for VJax either, but I doubt that even comes to fruition.

I love this team. They are at least watchable again and they play hard as hell every week. That's all I wanted coming into the season. Colt looks like the real deal to me, so we just need to get him some weapons and improve the defensive pass rush.
