Redskins getting desperate

HOUSTON - NFL sources told FOX 26 Sports former Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell will work out Tuesday for the Washington Redskins.
Russell, the number one overall draft pick in 2007, was released by the Raiders in May. In three years as a starting quarterback in Oakland, Russell had 7-18 record.
For three months, Russell has been working with former NBA head coach John Lucas in Houston in an effort to get a second chance in the NFL.
Lucas, who had his own share of off-the-court-issues as a player, is nationally known for working with troubled athletes.
Last week, Russell had a blip on his radar erased when a Mobile County (Ala.) grand jury declined to indict him on charges of possession of a controlled substance.
The grand jury cited insufficient evidence concerning Russell's July 5 arrest for possession of codeine syrup without a valid prescription. A friend had testified in court that a drink laced with codeine was his and not Russell's.
On Oct. 20, Russell told FOX 26 Sports he was convinced he would get another shot at playing quarterback in the NFL.
"I know for a fact," said Russell then. "I have faith in God and strong beliefs. I know for a fact. It's going to happen.
"I can't say when, but until it happens I am going to stay here in Houston and continue to work out each and every day no matter how long it takes."
Asked if he has any doubts he can help an NFL team, Russell said, "None. None whatsoever. I need to be there

McNabb is out of shape.....but they're trying out the most out of shape QB in the history of Earth

Yeah...signing JaMarcus is a real great way for Washington to teach a lesson about how being in shape is a necessity...LOL.

I bet its just posturing on Shannahan's part.

This is the most ridiculous thing ever. Shanny is handling this siuation awful. Backtracking, making different excuses, now going this far.

The MNF countdown guys had it right. Just say you were pissed McNabb threw the INT, you benched him in the heat of the moment. It was a mistake and move on. This whole thing is killing a team that started the year pretty well.

I'm one of the 27 people that thinks JaBustas should get a second chance, but not in Washington. That fanbase would eat him alive (no pun intended).

I have heard that reported this morning that Shannahan is already in danger of losing the locker room in Washington like Childress has the way he continues to handle these kind of situations. McNabb is really popular among the players, and showing him up like that is not going over well at all.

What is it lately with head coaches picking fights with star players? It just fractures the locker room, and undercuts your ability as a head coach to get everyone on the same page. I just don't get it.

Washington would be 1-7 without McNabb.

I agree with that. Shanahan is creating this huge explosion of shit with the way he's handling it. And I wouldn't be surprised that he might lose the locker room like Iggy said. I remember during the preseason, some Yahoo blog entries were hinting that players didn't necessarily support the way he handled the Haynesworth situation (in that he seemed more interesting in one-upping Fat Albert to show who's boss instead of coming to anything resembling a cordial resolution). This deal with McNabb has the potential to be a lot worse, as it actually cost the team on the field. It's looking like Shanahan is more concerned with having ironclad control over HIS team than having a winning team. Anyone with a brain knows that even an out-of-shape McNabb gives your team a better chance to win under any condition than Rex Fucking Grossman.

    Mike Shannahan has LOST it.

He needs to retire because he's obviously out of touch with everything.
