QB Controversy going into the Browns bye week?

  • royal_k
Mangini said the QB that gives them the best chance to win would start. It was in today's PD. It's been said before, but I believe you have to start McCoy now. He's already shown he can handle road games in very hostile environments against good defenses. Let's see what he can do in a couple home games. Actually I'd start him the rest of the season. It gives the coaches more to go on going into the draft. We have to know if he is the man or not. ( I believe he is) We have so many other needs. If we cam eliminate the QB position, we can fill others.

There is a difference in actually believing he is, and wanting to believe he is.

All of us Browns fans have been dying for a good QB for the last decade. We want a good QB more than any other team (maybe excluding the Bills). We can't fall into the McCoy bandwagon just because of a few decent games by the young gun. Reason why I say that, is because I fell onto the BQ bandwagon because of a few good games, and that was quickly taken care of by NFL D-Coordinators. You need at least a season to determine if he is the man or not.

Quinn never impressed me as much as McCoy did in Pitsburgh. And that's why I said we need to see him play the rest of the season, so we do know. Believe me, if he finishes out the season, we'll know one way or the other. And so wiil Holmgren.

I want to see more of McCoy, not sure if that is the best idea or not..but we aren't going anywhere this year and Wallace/Delhomme are not our future. I think we need to see what we have in McCoy..because if he isn't the future, I think we need to invest a 1st round pick in Luck

McCoy is a winner and there is something to say about that. Brady Quinn didn't have huge success in college, DA played on medicore teams. McCoy won at the highest level in college for 4 years. Obviously winning in college doesn't make a good NFL QB, but it is one of the intangibles that goes along with the talent McCoy has. If I was a Browns fan, I would say there is reason to be optimistic.

LOL at Browns fans. Before you have a qb controversy, you first have to have a good qb. You fucks win a game and you get all hot and bothered. hahahaaaaa

Since I've been forced to watch them the last few weeks, McCoy should be the starter for the next 12 years.

    You are an idiot!!

Since colt has already had to play in a season in which they said he wouldn't.... Might as well just hand him the team now. You have 2 weeks to hand him as much info as he can handle.

Same thing happened to Roethlisberger. He turned out to be the best qb in the league. You didn't draft McBoy to sit the bench all of his career. And you didn't pick up Delhomme and Wallace to be your future. Put the kid and see what he has.

a healthy wallace gives us the best shot to win but it's not great enough to warrant not playing mccoy the rest of the season to see what he has. also, delhomme should no longer be employed with the browns anymore

No it's not too early. Being smart and being a good QB are two different things. Now, if he said he's the best QB the Browns have had since Kosar, THEN it's too early to say it.

Hey hey finally a football comment.

I agree. Ben's not the best QB in the league though, but he is definitely one of the best winners, which probably means more to the Steelers than pure QBing talent.

It's all about winning in the NFL.

Yep, but I still think the Steelers are a more dangerous team when the run the ball a lot and Ben throws around 20-25 passes a game. That has been there winning formula for a lot of years....that is after "defense wins championships"

The kid has shown he can handle it, so you might as well play him. If the rest of the way he is only mediocre, then you know you are still in need of a franchise QB. But if he really excells and gets better, that's one less need to have to address.

You look for improvement week by week, and so far he has shown that improvement. Stick with him and if he has a regression in play you know you he is not the answer.
  • Writerbuckeye
Like it or not, you play McCoy now so you have a better idea what you'll be doing in April.
  • OQB
McCoy will start unless Mangini wants to be unemployed at the end of the year. They have to figure out if Colt is their future, if not then they know they have to take a QB with that 1st pick.

Ben the best QB in the league?

The only thing Ben is best at is slamming cheeseburgers and banging chicks in Georgia bathrooms.

McCoy could start every game for the rest of the year and Mangini could still lose his job. I think we can all agree they will not have a winning record at season's end, so to keep his job they have to stay competitive and keep playing hard for him. And then he may keep his job, but if Gruden wants to coach again the job could be his.

I would LOVE to see Gruden as the next Brown's coach!!
  • hoops23
Gruden was born in Sandusky and has a Super Bowl ring. I love the guys personality too, so I'd be on board (well, I've been advocating it since last season) with that!

Colt accomplished what Big ben certainly couldn't---winning in the Superdome.

Dunno man, I personally think Gruden's an idiot and the only reason he won a championship was he inherited Dungy's team and had arguably the greatest defense of all time (in a single season....talent wise not necessarily statistically) with the best defensive coordinator of all time.
