Does Cliff Lee go to Yankees after season is over?

  • OQB
I sure hope he doesn't get sucked into this. He can make his money on another team, and leave the yanks begging for him.
  • j_crazy
I would put a lot of cash on it.

Andy Pettite is a free agent, I think Cliff takes his spot in the rotation. I think someone posted on here they read he was upset he went to Texas and that the Yankees offer fell through at the trade deadline. Can't blame him though. He will be 33 next year, guy just wants to get his one big payday.

    I'd say 99.9% chance.

Some other team will offer him a big deal...and I hope he takes it. But I doubt it will be the Indians..from the hills haha

Probably will. Baseball needs a salary cap

Yeah i know itll never happen,But its just stupid to not have one. Small market teams that draft players and develop them into superstars have almost no chance of retaining them because as soon as theyre a FA they have some big market team throwing a crazy amount of $ at them.
  • OQB
As long as Bud Selig is in charge... nothing will change.

Giants and Rangers in the series. Not exactly "large" market teams. Some of you need to take your torches and pitch forks and go talk with David Stern. Baseball has more parity than the NBA, yet you never hear the 'woe is me' crap from people that watch that league

Go look at the Pirates financial docs. Small market teams pocket millions and don't reinvest it. Furthermore why do rich dudes keep wanting to buy these bottom feeders? I'm guessing because it is profitable. Teams have nobody to blame but themselves when they suck

To make money you have to pay/invest money....

    Rangers #4
    Giants #13

But both are western, so the large east coast population/markets will suffer. When it is east coast teams, even not in the direct market, they all factor into the ratings, west coast just doesnt have the amount of large markets to help with ratings.

GTFO of here with that nonsense.

Yanks will offer a big payday, and Nolan Ryan isn't even sure if he can afford to keep him. I know a lot of people hope he wins a ring, so he'll at least think about staying. Andy Pettitte will be a free agent, but all signs kind of point to him possibly returning for another year in pinstripes. that would make for a heck of an interesting rotation...

    Lee
    Sabathia
    Pettitte
    Burnett
    Hughes

you can say goodbye to Javier Vazquez if that happens

Any chance Pettitte retires? How long is he under contract? He has been around forever.

    ^^^^

there's always the chance he retires. Most people think that if he plays anywhere now, it will only be in New York. He apparently has kids that are getting older and wants to be around to be the family man, but only after his desire to play has been exausted. I think he comes back for one more run at the title, especially if Jeter and Rivera are resigned, which they will be.

    Nice try.
http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/salaries/_/name/phi/philadelphia-phillies You can wide league wide salaries on the right pane of this link.

The Giants rank 9th and the Rangers rank 26th in team salaries. The Yankees spend more than 2 times as much as the Giants, and almost four times as much as the Rangers.

Like I said, everybody needs to go take their pitchforks and torches after David Stern and the NBA.

Oh. Yeah that makes sense I guess. I should have been more clear. I just assumed when I was talking "large market teams" I assumed people knew that I was referring to how much $$$ they spend.

lol, thats fine, but why on earth would anyone assume "large market teams" to mean anything but the market they are located in???

Because if they followed baseball they would understand what the expression is referencing. Who cares how big the TV market is? It doesn't mean anything. For baseball purposes a large market team is one that spends a crap ton of money
