Congratulations Roy Halladay

  • Ironman92
THE best pitched game I have ever seen. The Reds contributed to it some...but he was unbelievable.

    Said it earlier...

Glad I DVR'd this one lol

Yeah sometimes you gotta tip your cap.

Definitely gotta give it up to Roy. He was insane tonight.

Pulling for the Reds here.... but shit, if you are going to lose a game in the playoffs, might as well be no-hit!

Incredible performance, one of the most dominating that I have ever seen.
  • Ironman92
The best hit ball was by the relief pitcher who took a ball to RF and Werth made an easy sliding catch....everyone else got down 0-1 and then tried to hit a HR to LF??????????? that must've happened 12 times....any ability to adjust?

There is no hitting coach and no plate approach.

Halladay had more hits than the Reds and the Reds had more errors than hits.

Great game by Doc. It's just crazy this is his 1st ever postseason start and he throws a no hitter.

    Indeed.

Halladay pitched a heck of a game, but the Reds had terrible approaches in this game. They looked like they were unsure whether they wanted to be aggressive or whether they wanted to work the count. Maybe it was nerves? They can only play better, that's the good thing. You can't do any worse.

MLBNetwork will replay the game at 1 AM tonight.

No way in hell would I have looked any worse than Jonny Gomes. Not a smidge of adjustment.

Gomes should be relegated to pinch hitting for a while

To me every time I see this guy swing a bat, it looks like he is trying to hit the ball 450 feet. I understand that sometimes, but damn every time.
  • Ironman92
Gomes lived all year hitting horribly located pitches...and he had a good year doing so. No team with any scouting report whatsoever should ever throw Gomes a pitch of any kind down the middle....I don't think Halladay threw maybe 3 or 4 pitches all night over the middle.

Gomes, like all the Reds, has the ability to go with it...but they have to incorporate it or they will be done in 3

Yeah he is very streaky. He pretty much tries to pull everything. You'll see him pop several pitches up the shoot to the 2nd baseman several times here in the next few days. He never really adjusts either. There's a reason he hovers around .250-.260

Thing that impressed me the most about Halladay was the post-game humility. First-ever postseason game, he pitches a no-hitter...and then gives all the credit to how his catcher called the game and got him into a zone.

There aren't very many major leaguers you would want to throw the ball down the middle to.!

Yeah, Halladay is easily my favorite non-Reds player in MLB. It's unfortunate he has to pitch for the Phillies. It was much easier to like him when he pitched in Canadia.

He is getting recognition now, but just imagine the buzz if he would have pitched in a big market most of his career....instead of trapped in Canada.

Is it possible that he will be an even better righty than Roger Clemens when it is all said and done?

I doubt he will be considered that...Clemens pitched in Boston and had tons of media hype(and roids). I bet if you look at their stats side by side for the first 10 years of their career...they are probably eerily similar.

Roids aside, Roger had/has better numbers. 12 Years with a sub 3.00 ERA. Better K guy. Amazingly, Rocket actually threw more innings than Halladay.

Doc is great, but he isnt to the level of Roger Clemens.

The innings thing really surprises me...I figured that would be the one category where Doc would be better.

It was an absolutely masterful performance... he had hitters off balance the entire contest and coaxed a ton of weak swings out of Reds hitters.

Yeah after I saw your post about the first 10 years I looked at both real quick. Clemens had numerous seasons with complete games nearing 20. I don't remember him being that dominant that early, most likely because I was about 3 years old.
