Indian's "Finish the Season" Thread

  • Laley23
6 in a row. Too bad the season is ending. We are clearly the best team in the MLB and if the season was a bit longer we could make a run to the title. Guess itll have to wait til 2011.

    My thoughts exactly.

Great DH victory today (meaningless, but so what)

    Some thoughts....

Lou Marson would be a pretty darn good player if he could just hit a lick. The guy is a very good defensive player, and is amazingly quick for a catcher.
Brantley may turn out to be the better player we got in the in the C.C. 'deal'.
Trevor Crowe just gets better and better. Great catch out in right field today, and that was a tough pitch to get down and bunt in the game winning squeeze play.

Props to Justin Verlander who put on a stunning pitching performance in the 8th. The Tribe had loaded the bases with one out, and at 112 pitches, Verlander was on the ropes. Verlander reached back and proceeded to pump six out of 8 fastballs past Crowe and Choo with nary a foul ball. All 8 pitches topped 100 MPH on the radar gun...two hit 102 MPH. This after 115 pitches!...to close out the inning, his night, and his season. He definitely earned my respect.

Tribe had a very respectful post All Stasr break second half.

Would love to see Choo finish with a 300 batting average.

They have not lost since I went, awesome.

Typical Tribe...starts out VERY slow then kicks it in at the end of the season when it doesn't matter and the other teams seem to be in "coast" mode. I'm sure we'll be hearing about this strong finish from the front office when they are trying to sell their snake oil in the offseason.

Just like the Browns, finish strong and ride that wave of momentum into next season. Wait....

Just out of curiousity, what exactly IS the post-All Star record? I will get ready to drink my snake oil.

    34-37

I've been impressed with the starting pitching in the second half. All are young and have a lot of potential.

Offensively they have some holes to fill.

And Perez has been awesome as our closer.

Thank you. So if we sweep the ChiSox, we end up at .500 .....bring on the snake oil!

And IMO, that is a great accomplishment, given that half the team are triple A players.

    Runaway train.

    comments for next year:

I like our outfield with Crowe, Choo, Brantley, and a returning Sizemore.
If Santana can return, our catching is good with Marson backing up.
Pitching staff looks reasonable @ at both starting and the pen.
The infield other than Cabrera is terrible. We have nobody @ 3rd, and nobody I like @ 2nd. Will the real Matt Laporta emerge?...he does not appear to be the stud that we thought we were getting for C.C.
We need a 25 to 30 HR /100 RBI guy @ 1st base especially with a 'weak' DH, and average offensive OF.
Luis Valbuena needs to be sent packing...I cannot see what the Tribe sees in Donald.

I would not be surprised to see Jhonny Peralta re-signed if the team can get him @ a reasonable price. He would be both a stop gap @ 3rd( till Chisenhall is ready) and a backup @SS. For all his detractors, the guy carries his weight offensively and defensively and is a durable consistent player. The team could use another power arm in the BP, a power hitter in the OF as well. I don't look for our Silas Marner type owner to spend for anything significant, so development has to come from within or thru trade.

Next year will be interesting for sure. These young guys have a little seasoning now and should get better. The problem is....how many of these guys are actually "Major League" baseball players and how many of them are 4A guys?
  • Ironman92
Good Luck to all you true Indians fans who have stayed with them the whole year.

Hopefully, they'll be much more competitive next year.

    Go Reds!

    There is always next year.

And the season is mercifully over with the Tribe losing 6-5 BUT escaping the cellar. HR's today by Carlin and Sutton.....um.....who dey?
  • HitsRus
Haven't really seen Sutton that much...can he play 2B?
