Ichiro has 200 hits again...

  • Tiger2003
First player ever to have 10 straight 200+ hit season. Pete Rose is the only other player to have 10 seasons with 200 hits. If he would have started in MLB I think he would be the all time hit leader before he would have called it quits.

3215 of 4256 is 76% singles for Pete.

81% for Ichiro. About right for a consistent hit guy.

Yep I agree. Its to bad Ichiro didn't come over the America till he was 27.

he just hits and hits and hits... its absolutely amazing how me maintains such a level of consistency year after year

He is just amazing. Congrats to him on this awesome accomplishment.

what if he came over at age 18? What if he played n the minors for ANY of the MLB teams.....would he have his swing that he does now.....would anyone in double A have allowed him to hit that way? What if he got off to a rough start swinging as such his first year in pro ball?

What he does is truely unbelievable....but it's difficult to predict how his minor league career and his early MLB years would've transpired. Hell the same organization that took him left .330 hitting Edgar Martinez for so long it cost him getting 3000 hits....and the Mariners were horrid when they kept him down 3+ years too long.

I just wish he could get the hell out of Seattle. He could help any contender IMO. He must not complain like most guys in his situation would or he would have been out of there long ago.

Ichiro a better hitter than rose?
  • Ironman92
He's a little better with the bat than Rose......Rose's longevity is what made him so high up the totals charts.
  • Ironman92
then again Rose has 726 career doubles.....Ichiro won't get anywhere near 500

everything has to be per year with Ichiro when comparing to other greats imo.

Ichiro has 255 doubles in 10 years. Average 25.5 a year
Rose had 746 doubles in 24 years. Average 31.083 a year

    Rose .409 slg

That is the god's awful truth. One has only to look at how the Indians ruined Andy Marte...and almost ruined Brandon Phillips by forcing them into Derek Shelton's hiiting boot camp.

Both Rose and Ichiro are good contact hitters and use their legs to garner the extra hits that makes their average 'pop'.

    a great and consistent hitter....

his personality, his culture, and playing in a small west coast market contribute to his relative invisibility to the mainstream media.

will he be the first Japanese Cooperstown HOFer?

    yes.

No doubt, and he will be a first ballot if he get to 3000 and even if he don't get to 3000 he will probably still be a 1st ballot.

That fucker hit one of his 90 HR's when I was at a Tribe game a few years back, turned out to be the game winner.

hard to compare by the season when Ichiro has had all of his years during his prime and Rose played til age 46

What was Rose average # of doubles during the age Ichiro has played in the majors?
  • Tiger2003
Rose had 429 Doubles, from age 27-37
Ichiro has 255 Doubles from age 27-37

I dont care if its a double or single....its a hit
  • Ironman92
more than twice as likely to score from 2nd
  • Laley23
What are the triples and HR totals?
  • AcesinCalifornia
    Laley,

Here you go (I think my addition is correct):

    Ichiro (2001-2010) 71 triples 90 HR 555 RBI 382 SB 1043 Runs .376 OBP

Rose (1968-1977) 73 triples 94 HR 600 RBI 82 SB 1089 Runs OBP: Too lazy to calculate, but all but one of these seasons he exceeded Ichiro’s career OBP, often significantly.

    Both great players
