Rumored Nets/Nuggets offer for Anthony

  • KR1245
Denver is in a tough spot. Is this really the best deal out there for Carmelo Anthony? What happened to the Bulls rumors that involved Noah? I know that Favors has potential but there is a list a mile long of young players with "potential" that never amount to a damn thing in the NBA. In my opinion I think the Nuggets need to go after some proven talent.

I have watched enough basketball to know that he is a poor defender. Defense is half of the game and he is not very good at that so far.

    My top 5 when healthy,
Lbj, kobe, dwade, Chris Paul, Kevin durant.

These players are better over all then carmelo

Hey Gport, by your same logic, INJURIES are part of the game.

    And Chris Paul's not healthy.

    LBJ
    Kobe
    Durant
    'Melo
    Wade

LMAO nice Fail talking boasting injuries and having Dwayne Wade on your list. He has a longer injury history than CP3 and its not close. Once again your contradict yourself mr "fuck the SEC Go Florida".
  • Trueblue23
Durant isn't a very good defender yet either though..

I still think the Top 5 is Kobe, LeBron, Wade, Durant and Paul.

Cp3 is a good player, but hes always injured and just because he has a lot of steals doesnt mean hes a good defender. LBJ is a better player yes, but he gets overrated on D because he has highlight chase down blocks.

Injuries are part of the game true, which is why Melo has been able to stay pretty injury free, he does not play half of the game (defense).

LBJ and Kobe need no explanation.
Durant is a better offensive player than Melo and equal if not better on defense.
Wade just as good on offense if not better and a better defender.
Chris Paul is more important to his team because of the position he plays. He is a very good offensive player who makes other team mates better as well. Melo scores a lot but does not make his team mates better like Chris Paul does. Chris Paul has a more positive impact on the game than Melo does. CP Also a better defensive player as well.

Those are my top 5 with melo being somewhere between 6 and 10

You are right about cp3 being injured, thats why I said when healthy. Hopefully he can avoid injuries this coming season because I love watching him play. I still believe CP guards PG's much better than Melo guards SG and SF

I said Melo is a top 5 player, but I would actually have to agree with this. He's probably in the 6-8 range, but one could argue that he's better than Paul and possibly even Wade (although I think Wade is a top 3 player)

He's the only player I've seen that can somewhat neutralize Lebron when they play (obviously a couple exceptions to this).

    1. Lebron
    2. Durant
    3. Wade
    4. Kobe
    5. Howard

All of these players way better than Melo.

forgot to add two time MVP Steve Nash to the list.

There is a thread about a Sportsnation poll with top players in the NBA. As it stands right now, the people have voted Carmelo to be the 6th best, closely behind Howard.
  • BigAppleBuckeye
The Nets are trying to make a big splash to create a buzz before they move to Brooklyn (which I can't wait for). They whiffed on Lebron and missed out on the top two picks in the draft, but from what I am hearing locally, this deal is looking like it may go down VERY soon (fingers crossed).

Besides Howard, yes those 4 are WAY better than Melo, book it!
  • thedynasty1998
ESPN's front page say's this is the deal being proposed:

    Nets get: Carmelo Anthony
Denver gets: Favors, Kirilinko and multiple 1st rounders
    Utah gets: Boris Diaw
    Charlotte gets: Devin Harris

I guess I just don't get why he is so Hell bent on getting out of Denver to the nets or knicks. A nets team with him on it is no better than the nuggets team he is on now. I think the nuggets are actually better

Although I personally like Denver, it's still Denver. Guys want to play in the big markets and that's what he's going to get.

Then why not spend your last year on a pretty good team that could compete in the west. and if you wanna leave then leave. If he goes to the nets they could struggle to make the play offs this year. He can just as easily go there next year then right now.

I don't think he's demanding a trade, Denver is just trying to get something for him now if they realize they can't resign him.

Its not a terrible trade for the Nuggets.

Kirilenko is a solid defensive player, the Jazz have been trying to get rid of his contract for years.
Favors has potential but like I said before, there is a list a mile long of young players with potential at the end of the bench in the NBA.

Melo is gonna walk anyway, might as well get something for him.

I dont like players under contract being able to pick and choose where they want to get traded. At some point the owners are going to have to get some power back in the NBA. Joe Tait said it best when he said "the inmates are starting to run the asylum".

I agree with this, however I think with the Melo situation he obviously has much more value if he's going to a team where he's willing to sign an extension, which is why they are trying to make a deal with a team he prefers. Sure they can trade him to anyone, but they will get much more back if he goes to a team and has a pre-negotiated extension in place.
  • friendfromlowry
Looks like the trade hit a snag - Melo isn't too keen on signing this extension with New Jersey. He was arguing that he never wanted to be traded in the first place. I looked back through some ESPN articles, and found some back from early Sept. where he wants to be in Denver, but then if you look closer to August, sources close to the team say he was meeting with office personnel and wanted it, so....
I personally don't think he's any better in New Jersey. If they get rid of Harris and Cousins, then it's basically Anthony and Lopez (honorable mention to Farmar, Williams, Outlaw).
I think they're not any better than the Heat, Bulls, Celtics in the east.
