Pretty crazy news coming out of an organization in the midst of an unbelievable nose-dive.
Colby Rasmus is their "future". He's been the top prospect in the organization for quite a few years but has never seemed to live up to all the hype and has butted heads with Tony LaRussa on plenty of occasions.
Apparently Rasmus' father is very involved with his son's career and has actually been a point of conflict between LaRussa and Rasmus.
IMO this is the last thing the Cardinals need right now. They just had a complete meltdown in August, and this just adds to all the frustrations and controversies. Pujols has come out and publicly stated today that they need to get rid of Rasmus. So there is a rift here.......on one side you have the folks who think that Rasmus is still raw and needs more playing time (which LaRussa refuses to give him) and are ready to get rid of LaRussa if it means keeping Rasmus, on the other side you have the loyal LaRussa people who pretty much think Tony can do whatever the fuck he wants and anyone who butts heads with him should go (*cough*ScottRolen*cough*).
As a Reds fan I find this all hilarious. I certainly can appreciate the state of our organization right now, regardless of record. And say what you will about Dusty but he is NOT the type of manager who has rifts in his clubhouse. One thing is for sure though, when the Cardinals 2011 season rolls around either LaRussa or Rasmus will be gone. My thought is, the only way LaRussa stays is if they endanger losing Pujols along with LaRussa. Reading the STL media and fans, LaRussa doesn't seem to have many fans, and they seem to have soured on Pujols as well considering what they're going to have to pay him in 2012 if they re-sign him (they won't be able to afford a decent team to surround Hollliday and Pujols)
As it is, I will continue to watch this trainwreck with a smile on my face.
