Will Jake Delhomme start all 16 games for the Browns this year?
-
BR1986FBThis is taking into consideration that he stays injury free. My question is based strictly on performance. Many think he's done after last season. Will he start all 16 games or will he get yanked for poor performance? Simple yes or no and why....

Commander of AwesomeIf you had asked me this before Pre-season I would have said no way he starts the whole season. I've gone on the record as saying I bet he has 7 to 9 TOs in the first 3 games. That being said, he's looked pretty solid in the preseason, and I am starting to believe the coaching staff all the way to the FO is behind him. The fan in me wants to say yes, he starts every game, but my gut is saying he will eventually falter. In carolina he had one of the top O-Lines/running games in the League, and a top WR in steve smith. Yet he still couldn't keep it together and was replaced by rookie Matt Moore. We do not have the luxury of any of the advantages I listed so I find it hard to bet he is going to start every game this season.
On a side note, only about 1/3 of the QBs in the league start every game in an NFL season for their team, so its unlikely with John "The Matador/turnstile" St. Clair as his RT that he is even able to stay healthy through the whole season. -

Carolina's O-Line was in shambles due to injuries with a lot of mixing and matching last year that's partly why Delhomme had so many turnovers.
I certainly hope for the Browns sake he starts all 16 games, but who knows in this day and age, an injury can happen so easily. -
THE4RINGZNo. Wallace takes over the helm in Mid-October.
Jake was brought here to mentor the younger QB talent. That is his role, they will throw him a couple of bones (ie starts) and then hand him a clipboard and let him mentor.

BR1986FBTake into account this is a "performance based" question only. Perhaps I should rephrase and say "if Jake Delhomme stays healthy all season, will he start all 16 games?" I want to see if people think he is going to be effective all year or if he will screw the pooch and get yanked for Seneca Wallace.
I think if he stays healthy he'll start all 16. Granted, our receivers suck but I think Harrison, Hardesty, Hillis, Stuckey, Ben Watson & Evan Moore are going to be Jake's best friends all year in the short to intermediate passing game. I don't expect many deep passes because we really don't have any deep threats. -
THE4RINGZAnswer is still no, his performance will warrant Wallace getting the starting job. Wallace can at least make plays with his feet.
I don't expect deep routes either, remember Big Mike perfected the West Coast Offense and that suits this team well with no deep threats. -
grodtI think he does. The combo of an effective running game and our most effective weapons possibly being tight ends will lead to more conservative passes which should cut down on the interceptions that would lead to him being benched.

j_crazyI heard McCoy was in danger of not making the team???
is this true? -
hoops23I've liked what I've seen from Jake. Obviously Seneca is the more skilled QB at this point in their careers, but Jake is still a great in-game manager. If he limits the mistakes and continues to move the offense he'll stay in there.
You're not paying a guy 9 million a year for two years to hold a clipboard. -
Commander of AwesomeSeneca is a reason why, I think even in Jake is done at the end of the season, either by sucking or by retireing, I dont think we will take a QB high next year either. I think Seneca buys us a few years to either devlop a guy or draft other positions first then get a QB in two yrs or so.

Anything is possible but it's highly doubtful. -

Performance based, yes I do.
I saw enough from Delhomme in training camp and preseason to think he's got enough juice left to at least be a serviceable starting QB in the league. My prediction, if he stays healthy, is 22 tds 13 or 14 ints. Not spectactular, but definitely decent enough for the Browns to have a chance every week.
I do feel, however, that Wallace will get a couple snaps a game from the dual wildcat with Cribbs. -
BR1986FBIf Delhomme has a + margin on the TD's to INT's ratio I'll be fine with him. I'm not expecting 30 TD's, 8 INT'S & 4000 yards passing from him. I just don't want him to make DA/Quinn-like bonehead blunders and cost the team games. Just MANAGE the game, Jake.

Commander of AwesomeI dont think we have to worry about another DumbAss or Quinn type QBing this yr. I just hope we dont manage the game to not lose. I hate playing that type of football, Botch Davis/RAC was notorious for it with the prevent defense. I hope it doesn't end up happening on the offensive side.

All I want is for the QB to have a positive TD to INT ratio, not make stupid mistakes and to put us in a position to steal games in the 4th quarter. -
Commander of AwesomeI'd take that, esp after what we were subjected to watching last season. I think Jake is capable of providing that, but I still have concerns with our OC.
-
BR1986FBI'm actually more concerned with our defense right now. Once Pashos & Luavao get plugged in on the right side of that O-Line, at worst, we'll be able to run the ball. It's our ability to cover tight ends that scares me along with limited to no pass rush. Hopefully Ryan will unleash the hounds in Tampa but that isn't going to solve our inability to cover TE's.

gerb131Who was the the last qb to start all 16 for the Browns? I don't think he will make all 16 starts qb's are so vulnerable to injury.

I hope for PIT's sake he starts all 16 games, too. -

If you can believe it, Tim Couch in 2001 -

Lol Timmy Couch. Should we revisit Timmy v Homcomb? -

Wow. Wouldn't have guessed that. -

Pittsburgh should worry about their own QB situation. Therapist will be out at least 4 games and Good Burger is going to be a sitting duck behind that O-Line. Besides, we didn't need a QB to run the ball down your throat in that second meeting last year. -
AutomatikI'll be surprised if he starts all 16. Delhomme with proven backup...Seneca! What a kickass group of QBs. How is it that Cleveland fan's continue to get excited for each season? I'm not asking to start shit or make a dig.....but if thats who my squad had behind center for an upcoming season I would not be happy.
As an OSU fan....reminds of going into a season with Belisari as QB.
As for Pittsburgh's QB situation....I'm not that worried actually. I think they can go .500 in those four games with Dixon or Leftwich. Then week 6 bathroom boy is back against the mighty Browns! -
Art ModellMust be pathetic for the highlights of the last 40 years for a Browns fan is the win last year against the Steelers. How sad.
