Manny Ramirez would look great out in left field...

  • SportsAndLady
    For the Cincinnati Reds.

    Come on Walt!
  • wildcats20
    I'm mixed on it.

He's not the same Manny, but IF he can get the stick back; he would be much better than the platoon of Gomes/Nix AT the plate. I still would take both those guys over him in the field though.

He's clutch as hell, too. Not to mention he's been there before, which is what this team needs down the stretch.

Right. That's what I mean if he can get his stick back, I say pull the trigger yesterday lol

I agree with wildcats. My gut says no but I think it would be an interesting pickup.

    I'll put it this way.

If Walt makes it happen, I won't be mad. If he doesn't do anything, I won't be mad.

This is how I feel too. $4mil is a ton of cash for 1 month and I'm not sold that he's healthy. He'd be amazing in GABP though and it's a pretty easy LF to play if he's healthy and motivated.

Tickets in the 2nd deck in left field would sell out immediately.

I don't like anything about it. Reds don't need a former primma donna.

    I don't want Manny's karma.

Guy....IF he gets his stick back? When, and I may have missed it, did he ever lose it. He is hitting .309 this year with decent power for a 38 year old. He still has a phenomenal eye at the plate, and still drives in runs. If he had a healthy hammy, his numbers would solid and better than the average OFer imo.

Guess I just didn't realize he was still hitting at that clip.

    manny 2-2, 2 doubles, 2 walks tonight.

he's putting on an audition for someone. i hope the cards don't get him.

Isn't there a pecking order to claiming a player off waivers?? As in the division leaders and then everyone else?
  • SportsAndLady
I know the NL gets first dibs, then the AL. I'm not sure about the division leaders. But I mean he's got a full no trade clause, so it's not like he would go to the Astros or Mariners.

    my heart says "NO"

    my brain says "NO"

however, Walt is the man, and if Walt says "GO", dammit...

    we "GO"

It goes by record and resets every 24 hours I believe.

If the Reds wanted Manny Ramirez, every team except for the Padres would have to pass on him. So the odds are VERY slim IMO.

For an AL team to win the claim, every NL team would have to pass and all the AL teams ahead of them. That's why I don't get the Manny to the White Sox rumors. The chances that he even gets to them is remote. They have 24 teams ahead of them on the waiver wire.

It goes worst NL record to best NL record, then worst AL record to best AL record. Nobody out of contention will claim him though, so in the NL the first team he might go to would be the Rockies.

If no NL teams claim him the White Sox are the worst contending team record wise so he will go there.

Who knows if he will accept a trade anywhere but I'm pretty sure he would as he isn't liked in LA anymore.

The Braves had a better record when he was placed on waivers then the Reds, so Reds have priority over them.

The White Sox have to hope all 7 NL contending teams pass so they are 8th. In reality though San Diego and SF definitely won't get him, Cards have Holliday. I have no idea if Atlanta or Colorado is interested.

I'll pass, Cincinnati already gets a pretty bad rep as it is.
  • sportchampps

Manny, Ocho, and T.O. all in the same city? Could be interesting!

Cincinnati will be covered in smug (and not the Hybrid car kind).

I'm not sold on Manny being completely healthy. He's not his normal self, and no matter what he's done in years past, I'm worried about this season. He's not done anything this year, and while a lot of that is a result of his injuries, even when healthy he's not been typical Manny. I'd rather not have him on the team, but if he ends up there - o'well. I'm really not big on giving up anything just to have him on the team. With that said, Gomes has cooled his bat and his play in left field seems to have taken a turn for the worse. Maybe we need an upgrade, but I really don't think that Manny would be that much of an upgrade over Gomes or Nix.
