Team USA

PrescottIs anybody else watching this team? 86-85 win last night versus Spain in Spain. Kevin Durant, who posted game-highs of 25 points and 10 boards, and also had a pair of key blocks in the closing seconds.Derrick Rose scored 13 points, including the winning free throws, and Lamar Odom had 12 points and 9 rebounds.

thereddraginnope...... and if it wasn't for it being an American team I'd be rooting against the egotistical bastards... they need knocked down 4-5 rungs.... however since it is an American team... go team USA
-
thedynasty1998I actually watched some of both games this weekend. They looked bad against Lithuania through the first 3 quarters and then kind of turned it on. Looked better against Spain, however, still didn't look real promising for the talent on the roster.

This team isnt full of egos at all. Well at least not compared to recent USA teams. -

You obviously don't even know who is on the team. -
osu45804I watched the whole second half ..... Kind of surprised that Coach K didn't play Rondo at all the entire game. In the other two games I've watched the team seemed to move at a quicker pace when Rondo was in the game. He could just be giving the others a shot to see what they can do, but I just thought it was odd.
-
thereddraginlol sure i do... and Kevin love being healthy will go a long way to helping this team....
i will say tho that Laley is correct in his assessment... the egos are in check as compared to some of the past players... -
PrescottI think Danny Granger was kept on the bench as well. Either Rondo and Granger are on the bubble or they were giving Gordon, Curry, and Westbrook time to play themselves on or off the team. Westbrook might have clinched his fate will a missed dunk.
-
HeelzMaybe playing Gordon Curry and Westbrook is the staffs way of figuring out which one of the three is going home, the games are just "friendly" . IMO Gordon, Westbrook and Curry are the 3 on the bubble
-
wildcats20This team the way it is will not win the Worlds.
I know the "big name" guys are saying they will be in for the Olympics, but it's going to have to be another "redeem team" after this groups fails. -

So then who on the team is an egotistical bastard? -

Who is "egotistical" on this squad? Or are you just searching for something to bitch about? I'll go with the latter. -

Yeah I don't see the egos either... -
thedynasty1998Yea, it does seem like they did their best to eliminate any of the "big egos" however I also think many of the bigger egos just turned them down this summer.
With that said, the perception of the NBA players is that they are all very egotistical, so maybe he was just talking about NBA players in general. -
like_thatDwight should have played with team USA. Out of all the NBA stars he needed it more than anybody else.

Prescott
This team may not win the tournament. The days of the US throwing some players out there and winning are over. Spain had no less than 5 NBA quality players. Some who have played in the league and others who opted not to. The "Redeem Team" defeated Spain to win the Gold in Olympics. That game could have gone either way, as the U.S. had a 4 point lead with less than 2 minutes remaining.I know the "big name" guys are saying they will be in for the Olympics, but it's going to have to be another "redeem team" after this groups fails.
Without the best players the NBA has to offer, Gold medals for the U.S. are going to be difficult to come by. The Europeans know how to play international basketball. -

I will agree with this post... cause a number of the more "egotistical" guys declined to play for Coach K er the National team... however there are still egos on the the team... AI, Rose, Billups (tho not as much as he once use to be) I think Rondo has a huge ego... however his in my opinion is delievered in the correct way... a positive way...
I think that due to the fact that Coach K is who he is and can do what ever he wants he is the perfect coach for this team casue it does help keep the ego's in check....
for the record I wasn't bitching... i just find it kinda funny that some of the guys take it so lightly cause they just "know they will win"... IE missed dunks and blocked shots against Luthiania (Sp?)
i do suppose tho if nothing else is on i'll prolly watch lol... -

Curious as to why you think this? -
lhslep134thedynasty1998;459619 wrote:Curious as to why you think this?
Because it's well known his offense game is terrible relative to his defensive prowess, and it's probable that working on it during competition is better than working on it in a gym.
At least that's why I think he should have played. -

I just didn't know why he was saying that, just kind of an open statement.
As for his offensive game, I disagree. I think he can improve more so in the gym by himself than playing on Team USA. Although Team USA doesn't have any offensive minded bigs right now, they are very much guard oriented. So, I don't even think Howard would have got many chances.
And he's still so raw offensively, he's better off doing 500 jump hooks in the gym by himself, IMO. I don't think he is ever going to be the dominant offensive player that Shaq was, but there's nothing wrong with that. He is a defensive presence and that's his biggest strength. I don't now if playing in these games really improves on that. -

First of all, stop typing like you're 12 years old.
Secondly, when calling players egotistical, you do realize that AI is actually Andre Iguodala, not Iverson, right?
Third, a lot of the guys on this roster are far from egotistical. Odom and Rondo are key players on championship teams usually overlooked because of the bigger names on their rosters. Then you have Durant who just signed a huge extension with the Thunder, basically bypassing all that free-agent shit that Lebron/Wade/Bosh milked the hell out of this year. Then you have other quality players (Gordon, Curry, Granger, Iguodala, Love) who play on sub par teams but never complain or speak out.
Fourth, I just don't understand how you can argue AI is egotistical. How many times a season can you catch a 76ers game on TV. At least back up what you say. Give me reasoning as to WHY he's egotistical instead of just pulling players out of your ass.
To be honest, I think a lot of the NBA rookies (as in <5 years experience) are pretty level-headed. Most of them inherit spots on sinking ships and are expected to save everything (ala John Wall this year). Some of them really come through with flying colors, like Rose and Durant. I'll be interested to see what Gordon/Griffin can do with the Clippers this year.
But it's nothing like the NFL where rookies are brought in and hold out until they leach every last dollar. They're paid tens of millions and they haven't done shit yet. And if they aren't paid more than player x or player y, they'll just hold out until they get their way. Take that fat, worthless fuck the Bengals drafted last year who held out, got his contract then showed up to camp and broke his foot.
If you dislike watching egotistical players, you better not be watching football (or even worse, baseball) -

i thought the games when Rondo played that the offense didnt do much. He just wants to dribble around too much. With coach K its about team, and i dont think Rondo totally was buying into that. Thats just my personal opinion, but thats what i thought was going on. -
Prescott
After watching this year's NBA playoffs, I have to take issue with this.I don't think anyone I saw in playoffs was a better team player than Rajon Rondo. He averaged 9 assists and 6 rebounds per game in the playoffs. Rondo is the ultimate team player. With coach K its about team, and i dont think Rondo totally was buying into that -
