Who thought it was a good idea to feature both the Raiders & Lions on Thanksgiving?

  • dazedconfused
i mean seriously, wtf? what was that board meeting like? "well, we already have the lions and we all know how great they are - obviously that winless season was just a minor speed bump in their quest for a championship. so how could we make thanksgiving better? i got it, the raiders...ratings bonanza!!!"

i know cbs is hamstrung by the fact that they only have the option of choosing one of two cowboy games for thanksgiving, but you know the team they decided to not go with? the chargers...good call on that one boys. lord knows we wouldn't want to feature a playoff team on thanksgiving

and the lions can still play on thanksgiving but they shouldn't be televised

Too bad they didn't put the Browns /Lions game on Thanksgiving.

    Lions/Browns = a evenly pathetic entertaining game.
    Green Bay/Lions = a long afternoon nap.

The Lions for the most part usually play well on Thanksgiving, regardless of how bad they are. And they always play the Packers tough at home.

Because it will probably be an entertaining game imo.

Because most of America can be thankful for the fact they don't cheer for the Lions or Raiders.

I still say they make Thanksgiving Day Games into "trophy games" where if you win the game you get to host it the following year. Then I would give the Lions or Cowboys a chance to win it back every third year or however often it fits into their schedule. I think that would make it much more competitive and more of a pride thing.

You don't want the rednecks all pissed off on a family occasion. The Cowboys need to win.

Hey guys, it's Thanksgiving. Have a heart. The Lions and Raiders deserve a little love too. Afterall, didn't the Raiders just defeat Cincinnati in a pretty exciting game? This may be the start of a historic and unprecedented run right to the Super bowl and immortality! As for the Lions, didn't they just defeat ...ah....well....didn't they just show tremendous...uh...er...ok, forget the Lions but what about them Raiders?

what are you doped up on?

I love the fact that the Lions and Cowboys are still the two main NFL teams that play on this day. They were the only two teams that stepped up and agreed to play on this day.

I hope they both keep this game as long as they want it.

They'll still be one of the most highly rated programs of the week because it's the NFL.

    FML!
I thought I was going to watch football on Thanksgiving and not two lambs being taken to slaughter.

I'm actually going to Ford Field tomorrow for the Lions-Packers game. Not so much that I am a huge Lions fan, I'm not. I really like going to Ford Field. The place is awesome.

People will watch any NFL game on Thanksgiving so why not put one on that sucks and wouldnt normally get ratings......
Also..many networks dont air their normal Thursday lineups on TDay because people are all scattered around and wont be able to do their usual viewing habits.

I kinda prefer it this way..knowing that the steelers rarely will play on turkey day so I dont have to break it to the fam that I wont be around much on Thanksgiving because ill be watching/going to the game.
If they rotated it then I imagine the leaugge would try and put marquee teams/games on and with the steelers success it most likely would mean more than the occasional game on that day.

At least for those that have the NFL network, the Giants v. Broncos nightcap promises a bit more playoff-contender drama.

Probably the network execs care very little which two teams will square off against the Cowboys or Lions; I'm sure the ratings will be similar no matter what.

I was wondering the same thing. Who scheduled this crap?

(Lions are fine, don't mess with tradition) But the Raiders?

    My proposal for next Thanksgiving.

    AFC Champs vs. a rival
    NFC Champs vs. a rival
    AFC Runners-up vs. a rival
    NFC Runners-up vs. a rival

Winners host the game next year.

With the Dallas offense struggling and Oakland featuring a very tough D, it should be a decent game between Oakland and Dallas...but probably not super entertaining.

Giants and Broncos...NFL Network Thursday evening

    thank goodness

Be great to see Denver post the win.
  • bigdaddy2003
I just don't see Denver getting the W.

too bad only 25% of the country gets the NFL Netork.

If they want to keep the Cowboys and Lions playing on Thanksgiving- fine schedule them against each other. Schedule the other game(s) like another poster said before, AFC champ v. rival, NFC champ v. rival.
