Who will the Indians give a way next?

    Any thoughts?

    Sizemore

If they want to give Choo to the Reds I wouldn't be opposed.
  • Azubuike24
Choo might be the ideal player I could hope the Reds would acquire.

Outfielder, check. Number 2 hitter, check. Great defensively and good all-around, check. He would fit perfectly in their offense and at GABP.

Bruce and a prospect for Choo right now.
  • justincredible
I'm not willing to trade Bruce just yet.
  • Azubuike24
For Choo, I would. Choo is under team control another 3 years. The same as Bruce. Although Jay is only 23 and Choo is 28, I'd consider it. Of course, ideally, they could acquire Choo for all prospects. The Tribe wouldn't have much interest in Bruce I'd imagine since their main focus would be cost, and Bruce isn't going to be any cheaper than Choo or under control for any longer.

Trade Bruce for Choo even with Choo's pending military obligation w/South Korea?

I dont know the full story behind this but did read a little bit about here...http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/spring2010/news/story?id=4957578

It sounds like he should just play(w/Indians permission) for the South Korea team in the Asian Games this year.
  • Azubuike24
I do remember reading about that, and it would definitely factor in. I guess I was just looking at an ideal #2 hitter and he would probably be my pick. It would be tough to give up on Jay Bruce anyway. The guy is only 23 and it seems like he's been around forever. In fact, he has, he's been up in the majors over 3 years now...

"I like being with the Indians," he said. "I feel like I'm at home here. I want to stay a long time."

Another athlete who enjoys Cleveland... Just wanted to point this out to a certain somebody in this thread.

I really didn't want to give away Choo, but I never knew about his obligations to the military. It would be a huge steal for the tribe to trade him if that was seriously the case, because if it is he will be taking a 2 year break from baseball after this season. The Tribe should allow him to play in the Asian games, but thats no guarantee as Japan has run away with the past 2 WBC's. Isn't Choo an American Citizen now? If he is, he could technically tell S. Korea to go to hell.

LOL. Guys, the Indians aren't trading away pieces that will help them contend for the Central within the next couple years. Choo isn't going ANYWHERE.

Also, he will not serve in Korea, book it.
  • wes_mantooth
Hafner is would be Ideal, but it will never happen. Choo won't be traded until the Dolan's have to pay him fair market value.

LOL @ the Indians contending in the next couple years.

Choo won't be traded until the Dolan's have to pay him fair market value.
He's arbitration elgible starting this year, and just hired Scott Boras as his agent. Assuming he gets out of his military service, Choo has about a year and a half left in Cleveland before he is dealt.

Apparently the Tribe wanted to lock Choo up long term, but when he fired his agent and hired Boras talks hit a wall.

Boras clients typically get very aggressive during their 3 years of arbitration, and almost never sign extensions that deprive them of free agency after their 6th year of service unless it is some kind of crazy market busting deal. That won't happen from daddy small bucks Dolan, so they will have to trade Choo in about 2 years to get something for him.

His injury probably saved Dolan, because Choo was on pace to be an All-star and have a big season. He would have gotten a massive raise in arbitration next for next year. His stats being down though will make it harder for him to get a big award from the panel if they reject the Tribes offer (which they will because of Boras).
  • Laley23
From within the organization, Choo is staying and playing ball for the Tribe.
  • Swamp Fox
Judging from past performance, I would say that no one is immune from the trading block. Whoever ends up leaving, will immediately play like Babe Ruth.

    not that unreasonable

The Indians will contend next season mark it down.
By contend I mean contend with the Royals to see who will be in last place.
  • Tigerfan00
Id hate to see it be Sizemore and next season is the final year of his current contract which he is due to make 7.5 million. If he doesnt stay healthy next season then he is gone and Im sure many teams will be calling for his services next season also.

It makes me sick reading all the posts about who other team fans want off our club and to know that they just might get their wish, like Swamp Fox says.
  • BRF
Maybe you guys would like Jason Donald, whose home run today turned out to be the game winner. Or perhaps Chris Perez, who got another save today in preserving a 5-4 win.

    Bingo!

    And Choo isn't going anywhere.

It makes me sick knowing that Hafner will be making 13 million next year and the following year for a guy who gets off his ass 4 times a game. That contract has to easily be the worst one ever in Indians history. I wish Dolan could make out one big check and send him packing and move on from that mess of a contract.

Hafner will be on waivers...no doubt in my mind. With that said, no way he gets picked up....so that horrible contract stays with the Tribe.
  • Tigerfan00
Im not sure they would insult the guy by putting him on waivers and showing him that no one wants him and then have to take him back after you had just waived him.

On the off chance that someone actually does decide they want him. They've gotta do their due dilligence, incase their is someone David Kahn level that we don't know about in the MLB yet.
