Braves at Reds game 2

  • dave
Fox national game, Thom is announcing. 4:10 start.

Have no fear Reds fans, I'll be there so they will win. Same Gomes, Bruce, and Stubbs 5-7 stretch in the lineup so it will have to be in spite of Dusty.

    Jurrjens vs Arroyo.

Reds have had little trouble with Jurrjens in his short career against them. He's had 3 starts, is 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA, and has given up 10 runs and walked 10 in just 13.1 innings.

Arroyo is 5-3 against the Braves in his career but has an ERA of 5.90.

I see a lot of runs being scored tonight on national television.

Finally got our tickets today in section 129, about 20 rows behind the Reds dugout.

Anyone else there yesterday and see the HR hitting softball players???? Good God...they did a pregame show and hit again before the fireworks...all were great but the one guy was consistently hitting 420+ foot shots....during the postgame hitting he nearly hit the scoreboard above the 2nd deck bleachers...about 25 rows into the upper deck.

Someone other than Rolen or Votto must step up. Votto is the clear cut MVP and Rolen is God in cleats.

Need very good games by at least 2 others to win...and God (Rolen) forbid Votto or Rolen have poor games.

Many topics were covered last night but I thought one that worked may have resulted in the negative in the end. Masset came in and got the 1st guy out and then made Martin Prado look as bad as he's ever looked...Prado backed away and nearly fell on strike 2 and swung at a ball that bounced at the plate for strike 3......Masset looked unhittable...but Dusty by the book goes with Rhodes and Rhodes gives up the hit to Heyward before walking Chipper and then getting McCann.....I've always went with teh belief of the pitcher having great stuff on a given night needs to sway the "by the book" moves.....to me leaving Masset in is what the managers who successfully have those "gut" feelings and use them sparingly and wisely.......I don't believe Dusty has one ounce of that.....no way is Corero pitching in the 8th if Dusty lets Masset finish what he started that inning.

Dusty also put Cordero in the 8th of a tie game.....????? Had Votto and Rolen been due up in the 9th....I could see it better, but he went for the win in the 9th and it didn't happen and then the advantage was with Bobby Cox who still had his closer becasue he used a lesser pitcher versus the bottom of the Reds order and the very top late in the 9th.

That game last night after the Votto HR had playoff excitement and then some......Had the Reds been able to that would have been one of the most exciting Reds wins in maybe a decade

Kind of disappointed that the Reds didn't do anything by the deadline .....
  • osu45804
Seriously WTF .... Braves come in limping and we give game 1 away and start off game 2 just as worse!
  • osu45804
I HATE atlanta with a PASSION
  • mhs95_06
Plenty of blame to go around for that 2 runs the Braves got in the first. Hanmigan with the bad throw, Rolen with a bad play, and Arroyo walking in a run! That kind of play is not representative of a team in the chase going into August!
  • osu45804
STUPID decision to send Cabrera ball was hit to hard
  • wildcats20
I usually love the aggressiveness, but damn that was dumb.

Need Rolen to pick up Barry here
  • mhs95_06
Reds play in the field gives the Braves a good working margin, and the Braves play in the field keeps the Reds from getting back in it. So far the Reds are at about a 3 run deficit not counting the hitting and pitching!
  • wildcats20
SWING THE BAT!! Good lord that pitch was right in the heart of the plate and you just sit and watch it.
  • osu45804
I'm sure glad the Reds didn't go out and get any offensive help
  • Ironman92
There is being agressive and then there is being smart.......Heyward's arm in RF is 2nd to none and Cabrera was touching 3rd base when Heyward touched the ball........3rd base coaching sent him and he was toast.......Rolen up with a runner on 3rd and 1 out.......that's my choice.

Reds defense is hurting them....Rolen I believe was going for the tag and then the throw was knocked off balance and couldn't make the throw.....but you can't win if you don't score.
  • Ironman92
I said all along to COMPETE and WIN in the playoffs they need a CF and another pitcher.....team chemistry and Dusty is our plan.
  • osu45804
    Rolen plays long ball! 2-1

    HR for God

Thom Brennaman " We've had Bret Boone, Pokey Reese and Brandon Phillips.....I'm not sure there have been 3 better defensive 2nd baseman in the past 20 years." Kevin Millar " that 2nd one was the best I've ever seen"

Robbie Alomar sure in the hell is one of them. Jose Lind was awesome as well.

Reds have had some great talent playing 2nd base for sure

I think Bronson can put a zero on the board in the 6th if he keeps McCann from going yard. Then the question is does dusty pinch hit for him to lead off the bottom of the 6th?
  • Ironman92
Thom Brennaman...."Drew Stubbs, as said by almost every fan in the past 40 years is the 2nd fastest Red they can rememeber" Only Deion was believed to be faster.

Now I understand the things that go into stealing bases....but numero uno is speed.....Eric Davis was 80 SB in 127 games for the Reds in one of his early years. Stubbs can fly...but you have to at least mention Eric Davis.....woulda had 100+ in a full 155+ game season.
  • Ironman92
Just guess what should be done and Dusty will go opposite.
  • mhs95_06
Votto needs to be trained to first tag the runner, then step on 1B, on that Phillips let the ball drop play. that is twice this year he has done it wrong! this time it wouldn't have been a double play, but that is what Brandon was loking for, and 2nd to have the catcher on 1B instead of Glaus.
