For me it would depend who's available at the #1se-alum wrote: have your team sneak into the playoffs and lose in the first round or have the #1 draft pick??
If it was a player like Lebron, hell yeah I'd rather miss the playoffs and get him, but if it was a schmuck like Kwame Brown, or Michael Olowakandi then i'd rather be in the playoffs.
Sadly this isn't something you would know at the time of drafting, wouldn't know for sure, until a couple years down the line. -
SportsAndLadyYeah unless it's a player that comes along once a decade who you just know for sure will change your franchise, it's gotta be the playoffs..doesn't really matter if they win anything, it just makes the season more fun when you're winning games.
-
BlueDevil11The question should be would you rather go 9-7 (in football) and miss the playoffs by one game, or go 1-15 and get the first draft pick.
-
charliehustle14I'd say playoffs. If you make the playoffs, you have a pretty decent team as it stands. If you're pitiful enough to get the #1 pick, you need a lot more help than just one player, no matter how good he is.

iclfan2playoffs easily.
-
daveplayoffs except for the nba, then id rather have the #1 pick.
-
George Costanza#1 pick
-
Fly4FunI'd say it also depends on the sport and certain circumstances.
Football - Playoffs
Basketball - #1, especially if it is a clear cut LeBron-esque #1 pick.
Baseball - Playoffs
Hockey - I'd say playoffs -
MulvaPlayoffs without question.

queencitybuckeyeWinning more games rather than less is always better.

darbypitcher22playoffs.

Laley23Playoffs. The only sport I think its debatable is the NBA. Players can change a team instantly when the teams are so small and 1 player can win a given game easily. But at the same time, it has to be a guy like LeBron. He is probably the easiest sure fire #1 of all time. Just look at other top players who didnt even go #1.
Of course in the NBA it doesnt even matter, the lottery system kind of makes being bad only half the equation (see Bulls of 2 years ago) -
ZWICK 4 PREZPlayoffs? Don't talk about playoffs. You kidding me?? ... playoffs?
-
HeathAlum21It would have to be win the games. The reason is because you have a season where you have hope that your team can win it all. You don't know during the season that your team will lose in the first round. The memories and hope for your team is one of the big things that makes sports fun.
