ESPN reporting Chris Paul on the block, likely destinations......

  • Fab1b
No link just watching sportscenter they are saying Chris Paul is on the block and could end up with the Knicks (no surprise there) or the Magic.
  • karen lotz
Mavericks and Trail Blazers were also mentioned.
  • Fab1b
I just caught it before a break looks like they are talking about it next though.

One GM said that there is no way Chris Paul is with New Orleans at the start of the season. Really interesting move here if he goes to Orlando, New York or the Lakers (those are the three I heard). Talk about a top heavy league.
  • Fab1b
They are reporting that Paul wants out and wants a piece of what the others got in FA this season. This is getting crazy. They said Pauls perferred teams are the Knicks, Magic, Mavs, Blazers with them saying the Knicks are the top choice. They said the Lakers but then Broussard said the Lakers are not on Pauls list.
  • karen lotz
New York is his first choice followed by Orlando, Dallas, and then Portland. Broussard just said the Lakers aren't a possibility.

If he goes to the Knicks I think that would gift wrap Melo to them. Maybe he wasn't kidding at Melo's wedding.
  • karen lotz
    dammit fab!
  • Fab1b
I think this was even more evident now that LeBron was never coming back to Cleveland. If a trade was an option to get Paul with LeBron I think that is something they would have went after hard but LeBron was certainly set on Miami with Wade and Bosh all along.

I wonder what kind of backlash Paul will receive on here due to his wanting to play with other superstars??

Ha ha, I'm bored watching sportscenter before I head to the office the rest of the day/evening.

We basically quoted the whole segment from SC but you typed a little faster.

I think this superteam fad in the NBA is stupid but if I were in their shoes I would probably do the same thing. I can't blame him because the organization hasn't spent money or tried to put a team around him like the Cavs tried with LBJ. Now that the Hornets are going to transition to a new owner I guess he doesn't want to wait and see if this guy will loosen the purse strings.
  • osu45804
Well it's not really his choice on where he lands. CP3 still has 2 years on his deal so the Hornets can basically send him wherever they want to lol.... Also seeing crazy rumors like Boston would send Rondo, Sheed's expiring contract and a draft pick for CP3... Hard to see Boston dealing Rondo at this moment though.
  • brutus161
How about Dallas gives Jason Kidd and Caron Butler (around 10 mil expiring contract) for CP3? That works for both teams. As much as I would hate to part with Kidd again, having Paul makes the Mavs better than they were.

    Bill Simmons is suggesting this:

New Orleans gets: Rondo, Perkins, Sheed & his contract, 1st Rd Draft pick & $3M

Boston gets: Chris Paul & Okafor

STILL would hate the idea of having to give up Rondo and the team chemistry.... I highly doubt it happens but just the thought of it kinda sucks
  • Nate
    Bill Simmons is oblivious here.

Rondo is the only thing in that package worth a dang. Perkins is an injury liability.

If Boston would really do such a deal, New Orleans should do it ASAP as it would clear Okafor's awful deal off their books and bring back an All-Star point guard signed long term.

On Boston's end, You hate to potentially mess with the chemistry but Paul is a top 10 player in the league and Okafor would be a very valuable addition as he is a lateral move if not slight upgrade from Perkins.

    Paul/Allen/Pierce/KG/Okafor would be a tough starting 5.

Was Chris Paul born and raised in Ohio?
Was Chris Paul born and raised near Cleveland?
Would Chris Paul quit during the Playoffs?
Will Chris Paul have an hour long special to tell people where he is taking his talents?

I don't think there will be any backlash.

I think itd be a step back defensively though.

Paul and Okafor arent nearly as good on D as rondo and Perkins. Also KG, ray ray and Pierce arent exactly young anymore. Theyd be phenominal on offense but in the post season where defense matters...they might struggle

singular, not plural. cp3 also isnt considered the best player in the league by almost everybody.

Paul is one of the best on ball defenders in the nba. he had some crazy streak a year or two ago with over 100+ straight games with atleast one steal. Not sure about Okafor.

Allen Iverson lead the league in steals on more than 1 occasion. Steals are misleading

Boston would be foolish to trade Rondo for Paul. Rondo got them to the Finals and is very young still. It would be a marginal upgrade at best....and then you have to take on Okafor's contract......
  • karen lotz
So Paul coming out and saying he wants to play with other stars rather than go it alone as THE MAN is ok because he isn't from Ohio?
