  • osu45804
    Todays Lineup:

    Phillips 4
    Cabrera 6
    Bruce 9
    Gomes 7
    Hernandez 3
    Stubbs 8
    Cairo 5
    Hanigan 2
    Volquez 1

Reds agree to terms with Isringhausen. He will report to AAA Louisville. and Corky Miller cleared waivers and was sent outright to AAA Louisville

No Votto or Rolen, could be another long day for the Reds offense. Hopefully Volquez can have another great outing.

Did anyone expect Miller to not clear waivers?
  • karen lotz
What is the latest on Rolen? Is he likely headed to the DL?
  • osu45804
Leadoff walk comes around to score 1-0 Nats bottom 1st
  • Heretic
Volquez be struggling today. Three consecutive walks to load the bases with one out in the second.

Reds have to win this game, can't let St. Louis get too big of a lead while they're hot.

3 out of 4 is good...split is not
  • osu45804
Livan Hernandez gets RBI single 2-0 Nats still bases loaded w/ 1 out

    Fielders Choice for Morgan.... 1st & 3rd w/ 2 outs 3-0 Washington
  • osu45804
2 Run Homerun Adam Dunn .. 5-0 Washington...... This is pretty pathetic
  • osu45804
Volquez is done: 2 1/3, 5 hits, 6 runs (so far). Runner on first
  • dave
What a joke, anyone at this game should get a free ticket to a future game.
  • osu45804
Final score, Reds lose 7-1 and now 2 full games back and waiting on the St. Louis outcome which is currently 0-0 in the 5th

The real question, why a midday game...on a Thursday?
  • Heretic
    ^^
Probably for travel time, as they're in Houston tomorrow.

We have a lot of those actually. An inconvience because FSO doesn't even bother to carry them.

Today is a perfect reason why the Enquirer article mentioning contract talks with Baker makes me a little sick to my stomach. If we re-sign him before we see the end result this season and end up 10 games out of the wildcard I will burn down GABP.

Philly beat St. Louis 2-0 in 11 Innings so still 1 1/2 games back
  • wildcats20
Phillies just beat the Cards, so it's only 1.5 games back.

Ugh just beat me to it osu lol
  • CinciX12
Best case scenario. Lets go beat up on the cellar now (Pittsburgh doesn't exist).

Honestly, the Reds should be embarrassed by this series and they probably should have lost it.

Last night is the only game that I had doubts about. Splitting with a bad Nats team is not acceptable when you are throwing Leake, Volquez, Bronson and Cueto.
  • CinciX12
Why was Volquez bad today? No one calling in after the game on 700 did a good job of explaining it and Tracy just complained and made irrelevant points as always.

    No location I'm assuming?
  • osu45804
Well tomorrow vs. Houston we got - Travis Wood starting who we have not scored any runs for in his last 17 Innings

Well from what they were saying during the game he was missing on almost all of his fastballs he had I think 5 walks in 2 1/3 Innings

Pretty much every Thursday day game has been on mlb network, today included.

Volquez just couldn't find the zone, even his outs he had to go 6+ pitches per batter. Him and Cueto are so similar, they just need to pound the zone more often. When they don't have it they are really off.

Ironman92 is gone today and we need to settle his bets on the vBookie... does anyone know if Brandon Phillips faked a bunt on the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the first, or did he just take it for a strike?

All the pitch-by-pitch says is it was a called strike.

EDIT: Nevermind, karen lotz looks to have figured it out (or Ironman found a computer)

I thought there was a good chance Corky would not clear waivers. If he wouldn't have I wonder if they would have kept 3 catchers to keep from losing him. It is very good to still have him available but not on the roster. In the off-season I was hoping the Reds could get two players signed, Gomes and Corky.

I guess Owings going down was as a result of the rest of the Reds pitching so well lately that he didn't get to play and lost his effectiveness. He should not feel that it is because he hasn't done what was expected, but hta he was a victim of not pitching for a long time. He should look at it as a chance to sharpen up so he can help when things aren't going well with other pitchers!

Someone said that there was no reason the Reds shouldn't win 3 of 4 from the Nats. I guess there must have been some legit reasons, like Strasburg, not getting clutch hitting, and a loss of command by Volvquez who it is his 2nd game pitched in a year, and typically Tommy John pitchers have a hard time with command for a while when they come back - the 2nd game back would be a prone time to expect it after the novelty of being back for the first start wears off!

Speaking of there being no reason, I think there is absolutely no reason to consider extending Dusty until the season results are known. And clearly the decison for this year to be the last should be made earlier than the decision to extend, which no way should be made before Oct 15th!
