Did you know? The Pirates haven't hit a home run with runners on base in 1,076 at-bat

    Last home run that wasn't a solo shot came back on June 8th.

    Delwyn Young connected for a two-run shot off Stephen Strasburg of all people in Strasburg's debut.

    the shame is that the Pirates have, what I think is the best park in all of MLB...(and I have been to many);
    in one of the greatest sports cities........

    but the current state of professional sports, small marketship, and listless ownership has the great franchise of Maz and Clemente and Stargell taking a backseat.

    Sad.

    It is truly a shame. I have never had the privilege of watching a game at Pittsburgh, but at least on TV, that park looks PERFECT. I love watching McCutchen play, I hope he develops into a superstar and stays put. As a Mets fan, I remember our rivalry with the Pirates in the late 80s when they had Bonds, Bonilla, Breams, etc ... I know we are in different divisions now, but that franchine deserves a winner. I hate modern baseball, something needs to change.

    I do know that the Pirates suck and I've grown up a Pirates fan. That is an amazing stat. Mark Cuban should buy the team.

    I would concur with kildeer's assessment of the Pittsburgh baseball stadium. My sons and I spent a weekend in Pittsburgh several years ago when the stadium was almost new, and we enjoyed a three game series with the Astros. it is a wonderful setting for baseball and it is too bad that the Pirates are struggling so much right now to field a competitive team that can rival their facility in quality.

    I wish they were much better. They are really bad with limited potential. I wish owners would at least give their teams a shot.

    Wow, that's a pretty unbelievable stat. I was over there for one of the Indians games last month and as bad of a state the Tribe are in, it really does pale in comparison to the Buccos. There's a few pieces in place but damn, I just don't see how they could ever truly compete anytime soon.

    Maybe they should go back to those old sweet ass jerseys instead of the newer ugly ones.

    Garrett Jones hit a 2-run homer today to end the streak. Maholm with a complete game shutout.

    They've actually had 17 and 19 hits, respectively, the past two games.

    All-around good one on Sunday with Maholm going the distance.

    They're giving the young guys the opportunity to sink or swim. It's been ugly at times, but the offense the last two games shows they have some potential. They just need to play guys like Tabata, Alvarez, Milledge, etc. on a daily basis to give them experience and help them gel together. Saw Alvarez has gotten into the .230s and both Tabata and Milledge are hitting the ball well right now.
