    Exactly

The four listed in the poll are all magnificent basketball players but I think to be the very best you have to be able to do it when it counts the most, and at the present time I have to go with Kobe. I don't think that Lebron James has the personality or perhaps even the desire to actually have to accept the role of leader and if you're the best, you lead. particularly when the going is the toughest. Wade is a great player and a solid leader but I think Kobe is better and Kevin Durant is wonderful, but it's too early to call him the best. Let's see what he does in the next couple of seasons.

The best over a long season.....LeBron

The best if needed for one crucial game or even a series.....Kobe

I don't think anyone who answers this question with LeBron or Kobe is wrong. JMO

Durant is so offensively loaded to score....but all-around he's got a little bit to go. It may not be a stretch to say if healthy that he will reach 30,000 points.

I thought the exact same way.

    I voted for Durant.

Voted Lebron, but I'm glad to see that Durant is getting the respect he deserves. The guy is a beast and I really think in 2-3 years we might say he's the best in the NBA. Kobe is going to start to decline and with Lebron playing with the others, I don't know if he will ever get the individual credit he might deserve. Durant is probably the most skilled player offensively in the NBA and as he continues to get better he could be scary good. Might see him average 35 of so one season.

I am a Kobe hater but I admit he is the best because he is able to make his team mates better even if he is having an off night. Before the "decision" I thought Lebron had trouble with the pressure of being the man in Cleveland. Going to the Heat will take away this pressure, but he can't be the best if he can't handle the pressure.

Not really sure how you can say this? I think Kobe is the best closer, that I can't disagree with. But I don't know if there is a player in the NBA who does more for his teammates than Lebron. He did everything for Cleveland, create, rebound, pass, score and defend. The fact that the Cavs had the best regular season record tells me Lebron can make his teammates better than Kobe, when Kobe is playing with a far more talented roster.

And as for having trouble being the man in Cleveland, how? He was the man from day 1 and couldn't have handled it any better.

Lebron is a great player and probably has the most talent right now, but in my opinion Kobe has the better attitude to win championships and that gives him the edge in the best player category. Lebron made Cleveland a better team. He was the man in Cleveland. I agree. I am thinking of Cleveland's playoff performance over the last few years and in my opinion the "best player" in basketball gets it done. Maybe I was spoiled by growing watching MJ, but the "best" step it up in the playoffs and get the job done.

Don't get me wrong Lebron is a great player and he does it all on the court but he is lacking the killer instinct that makes him the best player. It comes down to how do you define the "best". I am not saying that Lebron sucks. If God came down and offered me Lebron's talents and physical size I wouldn't turn it down.

I'm not going to argue that Kobe is the better player, because I understand why people would say that.

But your original point on Kobe was, "but I admit he is the best because he is able to make his team mates better even if he is having an off night".

That was my problem with your statement, I think if that's how you are judging the best player, it has to be Lebron.

i've always said that I thought kobe was the better player. lebron has more potential, but kobe's the best right now, IMO.

I'd like to see how many new fans Skip Bayless(sp?) has gained since the Incision.

Two straight MVPs and a roster without Pau Gasol Andrew Bynum Lamar Odom and Ron Artest would beg to differ.

That's the most offensively gifted big man in the league, another 7 footer with great athleticism, a 6'10" who can play 3 positions and one of the best defenders in the league.

Can't possibly fathom how someone could say Kobe's a more talented player. Maybe when he could still play above the rim, but not anymore.

Kobe is a better shooter, a better leader, a better clutch player but seriously how can you say someone who shot 40% from the field and 32% from 3 over the course of a 7 game series is the best player in the league.

Note: I would take Kobe over Lebron on my team for 1 game strictly because of his assassin mentality, but Lebron is definitely the more talented player.

    Still vote for LeBron.
  • se-alum
As much as I hate him now, I still voted LeBron.

LeBron, and it's not that close.
  • vball10set
it's very close, but based on results,I went with Kobe...LBJ's integrity imploded last week, and he may never recover from it--in the court of public opinion, that is.
