Thoughts on Cavs GM - Chris Grant

    I agree with pretty much everything said. The only thing that bothers me is, he really had no chance of bringing anyone in to help keep Lebron, because no one would come here without knowing he was staying, which we know now was never really going to happen. I guess he could have tried to trade for someone, but from some of the stuff I've been reading Cleveland's FO was pretty fed up with Bron even before this whole fiasco.

    I think all us Cavs fans were blindly optomistic that he was going to remain....
    falling short in '09 probably clinched it.
    the only chance to reconsider was the run this year with Shaq.

    when they took the exit early, all the plans that he had been discussing with his running mates was put into action.
    Gilbert, nor the Cavs, never had a chance. The fact that Bron strung this whole thing along was a ruse.

    Windhorst pretty much confirmed it wasn't true and even stated that the same rumor (the teammate bangs the mom/wife angle) has been used multiple times for different players (anyone remember the Smith/Gonzalez rumor from the 2006 national championship game?). I trust Windhorst more than anyone else on Cavs-related information.....certainly more than Cowherd

    Maybe Lebron or the Cavs management told Windhorst that if he didn't deny it, he would be banned from their locker room?

    And the Smith/Gonzo rumor was not a rumor, it's a fact.

    Geez I dont even know where to start with this post.

    1. Even if the Delonte rumor is true, you can't just cut him you need to keep him because he's a trading asset and part of the contingency plan in case Lebron was leaving. Lebron and Delonte wouldn't have co-existed but to say that you definitively needed to get rid of him to keep Lebron is absurd because if Lebron would have committed to staying THEN I'm sure Delonte would have been gone. Lebron never once made it clear he was committed to staying, and from everything that's been said it's apparent he was deadset on leaving.

    2. He wasn't really recruiting Bosh. Bosh wanted none of playing with Lebron in Cleveland. Don't listen to me though, listen to Windy quoting a Western Conf. exec that Lebron's done more recruiting for the heat in the last 5 days than the last 3 years in Cleveland.

    3. What were we going to do, commit money to a first round pick when we're already over the cap if we re-sign Lebron and others who would have stayed if Lebron stayed (Shaq, Z)? Stupid move, the Cavs made the right move by not getting into the draft. And a second round pick? Worthless considering they wouldn't play over Eyenga or Green in the summer league, both of which are fighting for playing time.

    4. You're incredibly stupid if you don't think the Cavs had the right to be shocked he left. Ask the Magic executives how shocked they were when Shaq up and went to LA. Of course, back then the media wasn't incredibly open and upfront with everything so it wasn't publicized as much.

    5. OF COURSE Grant didn't know which direction they would go because it was all dependent on Gilbert. The Cavs essentially have 2 options: try and make due with overpaying for shit players, or go through the course of the season and make moves next offseason and in the draft. I'm willing to bet some of my stupid v-cash the Cavs end up with 2 first round picks by the time the 2011 NBA Draft rolls around, depending on what happens during this season. It appears the Cavs are going to ride the ship, which is the right decision in my eyes.

    PG: Mo Williams/Delonte
    SG: Parker
    SF: Moon/Green/Eyenga
    PF: Jamison/Varejao/Hickson
    C: Varejao


    That lineup isn't a worldbeater, but it's certainly mediocre enough to make the playoffs in the East. Let's see what happens before you can even try and criticize Grant.


    If you don't think Lebron's indecision (or lack of truthfullness with the Cavs, whatever you want to call it) handcuffed the front office, then you're extremely ignorant to the entire process.

    But again, don't listen to me, listen to the 239084095831 sportswriters (including Windy) who have said the same thing.

    1. In my opinion, you absolutely cut him. It's not like he's that valuable anyways. You either trade him for a draft pick or get something marginal in return, or let him go. Lebron was the prize, you can't recruit him to resign with West still on the roster.

    2. Windhorst also stated Lebron was trying to recruit Bosh. Which one is it? Of course he's going to recruit for the team he plays for now.

    3. Late first rounders don't make much money. Maybe they could have traded Delonte for a late first rounder? You free up cap space and bring on a small number. Then you have a piece for the future, which would be valuable now as they are obviously building for the future.

    4. Did you hear Grants presser after losing Lebron? He sounded lost. I don't care what the case is, you at least pretend that you have a plan going forward.

    The Cavs were handcuffed just like every other team awaiting word from Lebron. Let's not pretend the Cavs were in such a unique situation.

    Just like you criticized me on another thread for making a crazy comparison, I will do it here to you....You think people who believe a college football player banged another players girlfriend, that we also then believe that our United States Government committed the greatest crime in American history?

    And now I'm a conspiracy theorist? I do think Delonte banged Lebron's mom and I'm pretty certain Gonzo's girl banged Troy Smith. Sorry, but I'm not in the minority in these two.
