Interesting to say the least. -
NateI don't think he was afraid of the spotlight. I think he didn't want to be harassed for not winning a ring for what little team the Knicks had to offer him.

BigAppleBuckeyeI had a morning client conference over by Madison Square Garden this morning, and I saw that giant Nets billboard for the first time and just shook my head. Talk about making ZERO noise this offseason!

gutIn all fairness, I suspect going to play ball with his close friends was the deciding factor. But that amusement will wear off quickly, I suspect. It won't be long - especially when he gets that elusive title - before he starts to regret not winning a title as "the man" as opposed to with a 3-headed monster.
Just like he and his "team" grossly miscalculated the perception of last night's debacle, I think James is grossly miscalculating what winning titles in MIA will really do for his legacy. It's right there with Kobe to look at - he was criticized for years as not being able to win without Shaq. Lebron probably will get his ring(s) in MIA, but it's not going to do nearly as much for his legacy as he thinks, which I feel will come to weigh heavily on him as that realization dawns on him in subsequent years. -
BigAppleBuckeyeLebron winning his 1st ring in Miami = Alex Rodriguez winning his first ring with the Yankees.
Two players with increasingly horrible public images, both self-centered primadonnas, winning on teams that are grossly stacked with talent where any championship should be expected, and never truly cherished. -
purple_rein^ Well said.

This. And nobody really thinks any differently of A-Rod now that he has a ring. That should have tought LeBron something.
